I don't yet have children of my own to potty-train, but I used to regularly watch my friends' child, Ellie, from the time E. was 1 till she was 2.5. And they began trying to potty-train her towards the end of that time (def. on the early side of the p-t spectrum). Anyway, they used to let her sit on her mini-potty in the living room.
