I went to a concert! - Meagan Spooner
http://meaganspooner.livejournal.com/10531.html
I went to a concert! I went to the most AWESOME U2 concert last night. We were sitting pretty high up, but the view was amazing and I'm pretty sure we had the best seat in the house, except for maybe the chick who got pulled up onstage to dance with Bono. I've never been to such a massive concert before. I went with Amie. It was a feeling beyond description for me. To explain why, I'll give you an excerpt from THE IRON WOOD. Until now, Lark has lived her whole life inside a dome- she has never se...The s...

Were All Mad Here. A Madwomans Journey to Publication (and World Domination). Dec 21st, 2011. Whats been happening since I last wrote? I failed NaNoWriMo because I started feeling depressed. Failing NaNo doesnt bother me as much as I thought it would. Maybe because I knew I could have done it (I mean, I managed to write 20k in the first four days). I dunno. I got a MacBook Air. A teeny tiny 11 inch laptop. Anyone have a Mac? Do you recommend any programs? Christmas shopping. Nuff said. :P. Ive got a smal...

What is Dystopian Fiction? - Meagan Spooner
http://meaganspooner.livejournal.com/10359.html
What is Dystopian Fiction? Sympathy for the Devil - The Rolling Stones. Just tonight, a brand new twitterfriend asked me, What is a dystopian novel? Often the first question people ask me when I say I'm a writer is, "What do you write? The second question tends to be, "What the hell is a dystopian? And Scott Westerfeld (Uglies). Making waves in the YA market. And it’s definitely true that the genre has exploded recently, which I love. Is a word with which many of us writers, especially those of us who wr...

Cue blizzard of exclamation points! - Meagan Spooner
http://meaganspooner.livejournal.com/10794.html
Cue blizzard of exclamation points! To help explain the complete radio silence on my part lately, I have some good news and some bad news. We’ll start with the bad news: I’ve had to stop working on HUNTED. I wrote the first 30,000 words of the book in just a bit over two weeks, and have been having so much fun with it. But I’m stopping for a good reason, so that assuages my guilt somewhat. The reason, you ask? Yeah, wait for it. I HAVE AN AGENT! The other writers I’ve gotten to meet over the past few day...

A Theme of Dreams - Savannah J. Foley
http://savannahjfoley.livejournal.com/36760.html
Savannah J. Foley. Creating and Destroying Worlds. A Theme of Dreams. Jun 22nd, 2011 at 10:28 AM. I've been thinking a lot about themes, and their existence in novels, particularly the novels I'm trying to write. I read recently that themes cannot be planned, they must emerge. That you can only establish your theme after you finish the first draft. As I talked about in Roses of Ash Deconstructed. Now that I'm working on another project (which I briefly mention here. Well, I don't like sports. I did c...

Discovering Middle Grade Fiction and Fun Steampunk Pictures! - Savannah J. Foley
http://savannahjfoley.livejournal.com/37242.html
Savannah J. Foley. Creating and Destroying Worlds. Discovering Middle Grade Fiction and Fun Steampunk Pictures! Jun 23rd, 2011 at 2:59 PM. The Golden Compass, Ella Enchanted, Catherine Called Birdy, Dealing with Dragons, Wringer, and the Giver. These were some of my favorite books as I was growing up. And they're all Middle Grade. I started working on the steampunk Cinderella before reading some modern MG, and I felt super uncomfortable with it. Was my vocabulary too 'high'? Then I read the following:.

Reading Challenge 2011 - We're All Mad Here
http://jlewenda.livejournal.com/37561.html
Were All Mad Here. A Madwomans Journey to Publication (and World Domination). Dec 31st, 2011 at 10:27 PM. So, I’ve decided to challenge myself this year, by doing the A-Z Challenge. The idea is to read 26 books, each one starting with a letter of the alphabet. The use of A, An and The will not be included. I’ve tried narrowing it down to books I own, that I haven’t read yet and whatnot, but it’s not so simple. But some of them do meet that criteria. Anyway, here is my awesome list:. The Wheel of Time - R...

Tips for the Querying Writer - Meagan Spooner
http://meaganspooner.livejournal.com/10048.html
Tips for the Querying Writer. It remains to be seen how long I will stay sane. So far, so good. Although my housemates may argue otherwise, they don’t realize just how much worse it could get. (Cue dramatic music. Dun dun DUUUUHHHHN.). Anyway, I thought I’d share some helpful information and pro tips garnered from my very first week of submitting queries, for anyone who might find themselves in a similar position in the future. Always have chocolate/television/alcohol on hand. Your friends will be REALLY...
