Boulder Fearsome Five | Endless Curiosity
https://alecsharp.wordpress.com/2012/05/07/boulder-fearsome-five
May 7, 2012. 8212; Alec @ 12:40 pm. This weekend I did a ride called the Boulder Fearsome Five. Or Los Cinco Diablos. It’s a ride put on by Rocky Mountain Cycling Club. As part of the Challenge Series Short-Course Events. Here’s a map. Then it was slowly up Lee Hill Road, down Left Hand Canyon, then up past Jamestown to where the road tops out at Sparn Way. Finally after a long downhill there was just the final hill over Old Stage Road, where I was barely moving faster than a woman walking up the road.

The Deer Creek Challenge | Endless Curiosity
https://alecsharp.wordpress.com/2010/08/30/the-deer-creek-challenge
August 30, 2010. The Deer Creek Challenge. 8212; Alec @ 1:56 pm. On Sunday I rode the inaugural Deer Creek Challenge. A 100 mile ride with 12,751 feet of climbing. Actually, I climbed12,752 feet because I got off my bike and rolled it back downhill a few feet at one point. While the ride goes through some beautiful countryside, it doesn’t have the purity of the Triple Bypass. 129 miles and 15,000 feet of climbing), but its claim to fame is that it has the most climbing of any Century in the country.

Pleasure and Happiness | Endless Curiosity
https://alecsharp.wordpress.com/2010/07/20/pleasure-and-happiness
July 20, 2010. 8212; Alec @ 6:08 am. I’m sure it comes as no surprise to anyone to learn that pleasure and happiness are not synonymous. Certainly eating delicious food, having a relaxing massage, or sensual lovemaking can leave one happy, but it’s only temporary, and anyway, we get used to it, we habituate. I came across a passage that describes this well in a novel called The Rider. Leave a Comment ». Feed for comments on this post. Leave a Reply Cancel reply. Enter your comment here. A God of Manageable Size | Endless Curiosity
https://alecsharp.wordpress.com/2011/04/29/a-god-of-manageable-size
April 29, 2011. A God of Manageable Size. 8212; Alec @ 3:06 pm. My philosophical novel, A God of Manageable Size. Is now available on Amazon. It looks lovely. I’ve priced the book such that I will make $0.00 on each copy sold – but I hope to make up for that in volume. Tell all your family and friends and co-workers. Then buy the book – you won’t be making me rich, just happy. Also, that’s it, I’m done, finished – no more work on The Happiness Dance. Leave a Comment ». Feed for comments on this post.

Contador and Clenbuterol | Endless Curiosity
https://alecsharp.wordpress.com/2011/04/02/contador-and-clenbuterol
April 2, 2011. 8212; Alec @ 8:54 am. So it seems that the International Cycling Union (UCI) and the World Anti-drug Agency (WADA) are appealing the Spanish Cycling Federation’s decision to clear Alberto Contador of the charge that he took drugs while winning the 2010 Tour de France. I like to imagine the conversation when officials were deciding whether or not to clear Contador:. I think it’s important that we acquit Alberto of these ridiculous charges. Fourth, cycling needs its stars and its exciting co...

The Rich are Happier and More Content | Endless Curiosity
https://alecsharp.wordpress.com/2010/07/13/the-rich-are-happier-and-more-content
July 13, 2010. The Rich are Happier and More Content. 8212; Alec @ 6:07 am. I got this title from Jeffrey Goldberg’s posting. I, for one, am breathing a sigh of relief that the rich are happy. I imagine you feel the same way. How could you not? I’m writing this after reading a comment made in Aspen by Bharat Balasubramanian, an Indian living in Germany, in the blog of James Fallows, an American who has spent a lot of time in Germany. A certain globalish perspective perhaps? Now, of course there will be k...

Behead them all | Endless Curiosity
https://alecsharp.wordpress.com/2010/06/02/behead-them-all
June 2, 2010. 8212; Alec @ 12:21 pm. This is a follow-up to my previous post about wasting a good crisis. The Department of the Interior has been corrupted. And Minerals Management Service is perhaps the most corrupt. When Sun Tzu gave orders, the concubines simply giggled and did not do as instructed. After a couple of attempts, Sun Tzu had the two favorite concubines beheaded. After that, all orders were followed quickly and accurately. Leave a Comment ». Feed for comments on this post. Elliptigo in Boulder | Endless Curiosity
https://alecsharp.wordpress.com/2010/08/30/elliptigo-in-boulder
August 30, 2010. 8212; Alec @ 1:21 pm. On Saturday I rode an Elliptigo. At the Boulder Nites Classic. The Exempla Good Samaritan Boulder Nites Classic is Boulder’s first and only Family Fun Bike Ride around the streets of Boulder – at night! 8221; Apart from having way too many capital letters, the ride was a lot of fun. Or perhaps I should say the run was a lot of fun. I loved riding/running it. It’s not nearly as tiring on the quads as a bicycle, but it gives you a great aerobic workout. ...I noticed a...

Religion and Morality | Endless Curiosity
https://alecsharp.wordpress.com/2010/05/23/religion-and-morality
May 23, 2010. 8212; Alec @ 5:34 am. I was reading an article called The New War Between Science and Religion. There is a new war between science and religion, rising from the ashes of the old one, which ended with the defeat of the anti-evolution forces in the 2005 “intelligent design” trial. …. The new war pits those who argue that science and “moderate” forms of religion are compatible worldviews against those who think they are not. The philosopher Bertrand Russell once said, ‘. As a historian, I conf...

The Amazing Mark Cavendish | Endless Curiosity
https://alecsharp.wordpress.com/2010/07/09/the-amazing-mark-cavendish
July 9, 2010. The Amazing Mark Cavendish. 8212; Alec @ 11:00 am. I’ve been reading Mark Cavendish’s autobiography, Boy Racer. It seems somewhat premature since Cav is only just 25, but it’s a great book, and very appropriate for the moment since Cav won yesterday’s Stage 5. Here’s a lovely video of the last few minutes of Stage 5. With the peloton looking beautiful as it flows along the roads, and here’s another one that really shows the buildup to the final sprint.
