Som utbytesstudent kastas du in i ett litet samhälle, lär känna nya människor, lär dig deras kultur, tar del utav samhället, är aktiv i skolan-fritiden, får vänner för livet, en andrafamilj, lever med dem i tio månader, sen är det slut. Man lever på begränsad tid. Man kommer dit, lever som lokalbefolkningen, skapar nya relationer, lämnar sitt avtryck sen så åker man hem igen.
