Thanks to all of you who have been faithful followers. Tuesday, July 10, 2012. I've been keeping an eye on the grebe nest that I finally discovered. Yesterday it appears that they have hatched. Mom was still on the nest, with dad close by at the left. I think I can make out three, possibly four hatchlings here. All by its lonesome.

Going by temperature, not the calendar. Last year's first sighting was April 23rd. Flowers first, then leaves. These cheery coltsfoot blossoms greeted me as I walked the trail this morning, the earliest I have ever seen this spring wildflower in bloom. Last year my first sighting was April 12th.
