I remember as a child, with matching Christmas plaid outfits my mother had meticulously put together, gathering with the siblings two and lighting the advent candles. The small brown brick church that once housed an advent wreath still stands in view from my mother’s front door. The advent wreath, pine and holly adorned, sits now in my home. I looked at it today.

I sat watching, not reading or adding to, but watching the lists of bulleted tasks needing to be accomplished in the upcoming hours. Sometimes it is just fun to watch. I was really in no rush to scratch them off or add to them, so content they remained on monogrammed teacher paper. With that said, the Lord surprised me.

Whether it is the butter lotion on the nightstand or the dish soap at the top of the sink, I have never experienced unsoft hands. Her eyes often weary and the indentions of glasses shown like a never ending glimmer of sunlight come the darkness of day. Biblical beauty radiates off of her. Brokenness has defined her. And a Redeemer claims her.

Cuenca is 7. hours. away. But we made it just fine! And compared to Macas, Cuenca is COLD! But nothing compared to a Mississippi winter! This are some pictures from the military parade that we watched the first morning we got there. Did I mention we rode the bus overnight, coming and going? Cuenca is a beauuuutiful city!
