An Exercise in Patience (and Madness). Steph Rue, Radha Pandey, and I have been working for the past few months on a project for the upcoming Hand Papermaking Portfolio Series. Threads cut to size. Still threading the frame. Man, this was some tedious work! Steph mixing up the vat. Placing the grid. Scary stuff! Detail of the grid and cutting guides. Couching the second sheet on top of the grid. Sorting firsts, seconds, and thirds. And, here they are! 152 samples ready to be sent off to Hand Papermaking.

Winter Adventure at Penland. The varying landscape of Penland in winter. It has only been two days since I returned from Penland, and already I am back to school for the spring semester. These past few weeks have been a whirlwind, and from the look of things, they won’t be settling down anytime soon. Thankfully for me, though, I’m still basking in the afterglow of a productive and enriching residency, and little at this point can make me tire. In my research I have come across a number of images of the f...

Found Object Diary / Entry #1. Found Object #1 – Green Lipped Mussel. Dating back 400,000 years and living no where else in the world. Man, who knew such amazing things could be found in your own back yard? I started placing the items I discovered in a small wooden box my father constructed for me from my grandparent’s felled walnut tree. This is the box and its contents. Top left: raven’s skull, top right: molted cicada exoskeleton, bottom left: squirrel tail, bottom right: paper wasp’s nest. Fill in yo...
