Not so ancient history on Crete. Seventy years ago next month, one of the bloodiest battles of World War Two. The Jewish presence on Crete, dating back to the 4th century BC not long after the conquest by Alexander the Great, was wiped out in one day. The ancient synagogue of Etz Hayyim.
