For Recorders and Other Instruments. Prelude and Fugue No 1. Winner, 1997 Chicago Composition Contest. History and Performance Notes. Then I heard about the Chicago Chapter's Composition Competition and decided to re-work a lot of it and enter. I broke up the longer phrases and sprinkled them liberally around the circle, even giving some bits to the Bass. The folks in Chicago loved it and in March of 1998 it was performed with the rest of the winning pieces. Winning in Chicago, 1997. Frances Feldon, Mark...

For Recorders and Other Instruments. Concerto for Three Recorders with String Orchestra. WITH FULLY FIGURED BASS! Updated music images to come). History and Performance Notes. Here we have a fully-functional Italian concerto for Soprano, Alto and Tenor recorders. The Tenor part often doubles the Violas. When Baroque Etcetera performed this, we had a bass viol in the continuo, which would also work with a bassoon. The finale of this concerto is typical of the Italianate style, with major flourishes in all...

http://www.glenshannonmusic.com/smm102/SMM102.html?tab=2
For Recorders and Other Instruments. Prelude and Fugue No 2. History and Performance Notes. The rhythmic motif of the Prelude was invented one day while noodling around on the recorder before a Recorder Society chapter meeting. A light tongue is needed to keep the tempo and play those repeating notes. Be careful at Bar 29 when the counting really gets hairy! Performed at Arlington Community Church, Kensington CA, August 2006. Mark McMahon, Rebecca Molinari. Prelude and Fugue No 2. L'Estro Armonico no 11.

SMM106-"Peanut Butter" Prelude & Fugue
http://www.glenshannonmusic.com/smm106/SMM106.html?tab=2
For Recorders and Other Instruments. History and Performance Notes. The main interest in this Prelude and Fugue pairing is the contrast between the Crunchy Prelude (stiff, square, and tense) and the Smooth Fugue (relaxed, swingy and round). The Prelude requires the players to keep focused or else their mind will wander because of the repetitiveness of the rhythmic figure. Resist the temptation! At section B, it's time for the Tenor to take over. In this section, play the long notes as a real melody s...
