Events and Opening Times. Built by architects James Pulham and Son in early/mid 1830's from the rubble of the Norman Castle the Folly forms an impressive gateway to the gardens. Benington Lordship Gardens - Norman Keep

Events and Opening Times. With the arrival of William the Conqueror in 1066 his supporter Peter de Valoignes was given the manorial rights of Benington. His son Roger inherited it and built a stone keep in 1138, which was demolished in II77 by Henry II. The extensive earth works and keep remains are a complete example of a medieval castle. Events and Opening Times. Early summer is a particularly good time to visit with plenty to see. Early in May the herbaceous borders are starting to fill out with new growth, colour is provided by bulbs and biennials that are allowed to seed freely. Where bulbs have flowered in the spring the grass is left to grow tall creating a contrast between formal and wild areas throughout the garden. Opening times 2016: Sun 1st and Mon 2nd, Sun 29th and Mon 30th May, 12 - 4pm. Infomation for disabled visitors.

Events and Opening Times. This is our most popular event when the gardens are carpeted in a spectacular display of snowdrops around the remains of the Norman Castle and surrounding moat. Hellebores, Aconites and winter flowering shrubs are also in flower, as well as the coloured stems of Acers, Cornus and Willow around the lakes. Events and Opening Times. After the large drifts of Snowdrops have faded in late March the gardens are covered by Scilla bithynica. A dainty relative of the Bluebell that is just as invasive as its wild cousin. With large clumps of Daffodils flowering at the same time Easter is a good time to visit, the orchard in particular is a carpet of blue and yellow.
