Michael Reardon: June 2013
http://michaelrreardon.blogspot.com/2013_06_01_archive.html
Monday, June 17, 2013. I know I promised to show more of the Alcatraz comic book illustrations, but once again I've been tardy. Here is the page that shows one of the escaped prisoners washed up at Fort Point in San Francisco. He did survive (for details you'll have to buy the book :). The main challenge here is that this is a true nocturne. He probably arrived here after 9 PM in December. Quite dark. So I used a bit of license with the phosphorescence of the waves. Michael Reardon: Plein Air in Monterey
http://michaelrreardon.blogspot.com/2015/04/plein-air-in-monterey.html
Monday, April 20, 2015. Plein Air in Monterey. I just got back from the Plein Air convention in Monterey last weekend, and wanted to share some of the paintings I did while there. At the end of every day, the entire group went out to paint. Day 1 was Asilomar, Day 2 found us at Lover's Point, and the third day we were at the beach in Carmel. It's quite a scene with around 700 painters at work. I'll post more about the convention soon. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). View my complete profile.

Michael Reardon: July 2015
http://michaelrreardon.blogspot.com/2015_07_01_archive.html
Thursday, July 9, 2015. Imagined landscapes are one of my favorite painting subjects. Untethered to reality, I can invent any landscape I want. During my many years as an architectural illustrator, I worked on numerous projects that were almost purely imaginary. One of my last clients, a sheik in Dubai, rarely sent me plans and elevations. Almost always, his architect sent images and a visual description (usually all in one Photoshopped conglomeration) and let me go to town. I then choose one that appeal...

Michael Reardon: May 2014
http://michaelrreardon.blogspot.com/2014_05_01_archive.html
Wednesday, May 21, 2014. This is a small watercolor of the Spanish village of Calella de Palafrugell, the location of next May's workshop in Spain. I took quite a few liberties, especially with the foreground in order to get a composition I liked. Nothing new about that. The story here was the water. Looks like a great place to paint. Wednesday, May 14, 2014. Watercolor Workshop in Spain. Visit her website for more information. If you want to get hold of me, reply to this post. It should be a great time!

Michael Reardon: Point Reyes-First Workshop of 2015
http://michaelrreardon.blogspot.com/2015/04/point-reyes-first-workshop-of-2015.html
Monday, April 27, 2015. Point Reyes-First Workshop of 2015. Had a great workshop last Saturday at the Point Reyes National Seashore, at the Red Barn educational center near the Visitor's Center. Fortunately the rain storm that rolled through Friday night cleared into a beautiful day for painting. The group was particularly congenial. I'm always flattered that people sign up to hear my suggestions and advice on how to improve their watercolor painting. Red Barn, Point Reyes National Seashore.

Sixty Minute Artist: Improve Your Studio Lighting
http://sixtyminuteartist.blogspot.com/2008/03/improve-your-studio-lighting.html
Advice on how to make the most of your studio time. Friday, March 21, 2008. Improve Your Studio Lighting. Losing a Whole Year", Acrylic on Paper, 18x24 inches. Okay, enough about that for now. The reason I am posting today is that I have received several emails recently from readers inquiring about studio lighting, so I thought I would share some thoughts on this issue. Let me start by saying that, by far, the most common mistake I see with studio lighting is that there is not enough of it. Which is why ...

Sixty Minute Artist: April 2008
http://sixtyminuteartist.blogspot.com/2008_04_01_archive.html
Advice on how to make the most of your studio time. Wednesday, April 16, 2008. Untitled" (Study), Polymer on Paper, 17 1/2 x 23 Inches. Jerry Lebo, 2008. Anyway, the above study is one of the paintings I am thinking of making into one of the large “color space” paintings that I have been talking about in my blog recently. The study is based on a photo I took last week when I was walking near the Hirshhorn Museum. Send me a comment. The one I was seeing on the palette or the one I have on my brush? I am a...
