10 reasons why I call March my “hopeful month”. Daylight Saving Time begins. More daylight = happier Suzanne. The first day of spring. I am never sad to see winter go. Daffodils. And tulips. And all of the other beautiful things pushing their way through the brown-ness. March Madness. I am a huge college basketball fan, and I love my Tarheels. Spring break for Lily. Even though I still go to work, it rests my mind when she has time off and our schedule loosens up a bit. Favorite Oscar 2016 dresses. She i...

Happy Thanksgiving (and a bit of a goodbye) from these turkeys - permendous
http://permendous.com/happy-thanksgiving-and-a-bit-of-a-goodbye-from-these-turkeys
Happy Thanksgiving (and a bit of a goodbye) from these turkeys. Marc sits beside me, exhausted from more wrestling with insulation and plastic sheeting and pipes under the house. We’ve just finished a dinner of Thanksgiving leftovers, and bedtime is fast approaching (praise be). In one word, I’m content. My reserves fill up, and I begin to miss them as I head up to bed. By the morning, I’m rested (mostly) and overjoyed (truly) to see them again. Especially when they sleep past seven. Plus, my real job is...

Most every morning, she climbs quietly out of her bed and up into mine. I don’t even have to open my eyes to situate her in just the right spot, tucked under my arm, her legs curled against my belly. She loves to go to school, but does not appreciate the value of routine. Especially when her toys beckon to be played with and her teeth have no interest in being brushed. Speaking of spaghetti, one of my favorite Sophie-words is sa-lahn-ya, which means lasagna. Others I can’t bring myself to correct:. She l...

Not bad for day one. Here she is. My North Carolina State Fair. Food bucket list. Because it’s important to keep track of these things. Oh State Fair, how I love thee …. Biscuit from the Apex Lion’s Club. Twinx (Twinkie stuffed with a Twix bar, wrapped in bacon and deep-fried. Challenge accepted.). McBride’s corn dog. Buffalo chicken rangoons from Woody’s. Miss Debbie’s caramel (plus 16 other toppings) apple. A bite of Marc’s roasted corn. What’s on your list? I used store-bought crust because it’s...

8220;our” North Carolina State Fair. As I held the little plastic bag to Lily’s mouth while her breakfast came up on the parking lot shuttle bus (I caught it all! I thought for sure we’d be turning right back around to go home. My six-year-old daughter, infused with the Spirit of the State Fair. ten years - permendous

Ten years ago today. You and me and hopes and dreams and hearts brimming with love. Little did I know as I walked toward you on my father’s arm — blinking back tears and grinning like a fool — how amazing our life would be. I treasure every bit of it, even the valleys, because without fail, we climb out on the other side holding hands, stronger. Together. This little world we’ve created. These little human beings we’re raising. All this love. How grateful I am. 8220;our” North Carolina State Fair. Humans...

a lesson in gratitude - permendous

A lesson in gratitude. We got the news on Halloween day, in the midst of costumes and Elsa braids and where’s my treat bucket. Our furnace is unsafe, the technician said, and we really shouldn’t use it anymore. It. 21 years old, after all. We’ve been heating and cooling the house on borrowed time for the last few years, so we knew this news was coming. It was just a matter of when. My first thought: neighbors. Nearly a week later, I’m still overwhelmed with gratitude. We are blessed with the be...My dad ...

summer rewind: the beach - permendous

Summer rewind: the beach. It’s time to say goodbye. I know I should be thinking about Halloween costumes and jack-o-lantern carving and all things pumpkin spice, but I still can’t shake my longing for you. It doesn’t help that you just won’t quit giving us 80-degree days. Every time I step out of the house in boots and jeans I have to turn right back around to dig my shorts out of the bottom drawer. Oh Summer. You are so persistent. Which starts in THREE DAYS. (One word: Twinx. Not bad for day one. Laura...

Say hello to the new Posy (hashtag proud big sis). I am SO excited for Laura I can’t stand it! How can I possibly describe her awesomeness? Let’s see … she owns a small business and works her butt off to make that business succeed while at the same time wrangling an active (*understatement alert*) toddler and freshly-minted kindergartener. She is, as Casey Wilson would say, ah-MAH-zing. Check out the Posy re-boot. To see what I’m talking about. And Laura’s Instagram feed. Laquo; summer rewind: the farm.
