Invisible Things | Blogenspiel
https://anotherdamnedmedievalist.wordpress.com/2014/12/22/invisible-things
Another damned medievalist delivers her spiel. 22 December, 2014. It appears I have forgotten how to blog. I also have a paper draft ostensibly due tomorrow, and I have every kind of mental block going. I’ve got three blog post drafts, too, all unfinished. So now, I am writing, to prove that I can. Still. Write. Over the last few months about depression and the effects of stress on academics. But what if it’s not easy? New can of worms, that is. I’ve got no real conclusion here. It’s just...Super-late no...
RIP Anne McCaffrey (1926-2011) | Blogenspiel
https://anotherdamnedmedievalist.wordpress.com/2011/11/23/rip-anne-mccaffrey-1926-2011
Another damned medievalist delivers her spiel. RIP Anne McCaffrey (1926-2011). 23 November, 2011. Not a lot to say. I wouldn’t call McCaffrey one of the greatest writers of all time, despite the awards. Which I read when I was 12, at about the time I read Stranger in a Strange Land. I went from Heinlein to Lewis and Cooper, Alexander and Walton’s version of the Mabinogion. So RIP Anne McCaffrey, and thank you. From → NaBloPoMo. Larr; Another Damned Writing Group Meets again! Leave one →. So: Thanks, Anne.

Like a leaf on the wind. 2nd May, 2015 at 9:34 AM. Crossposted at my Tumblr. You knew it was too good to last, didn’t you? I don’t know about anyone else, but this is the conversation I saw, tracking back as best as I could. I’m paraphrasing a bit, but here goes. Yes, said Moen. Someone on a panel mentioned she’d seen/heard about some slash fic about Vox Day and RH. Moen wasn’t entirely sure which of the women on the panel had said it, but. That’s about how long it took for someone who was not there to c...

Modern Medieval: Charlie Hebdo and Neighborliness
http://modernmedieval.blogspot.com/2015/01/charlie-hebdo-and-neighborliness.html
The Middle Ages still have something to say. Thursday, January 8, 2015. Charlie Hebdo and Neighborliness. I'm cross-posting this from my personal blog. There is a lot more to say, and a lot more to tease out, but these brief thoughts seem like an important reminder while so many are so busy with the Clash of Civilizations narrative. Today, I began reading David Nirenberg’s Neighboring Faiths: Christianity, Islam, and Judaism in the Middle Ages and Today. For an excellent take on it. That “Our way o...
Love and Disdain: August 2013
http://loveanddisdain.blogspot.com/2013_08_01_archive.html
Tuesday, August 27, 2013. I wrote a book! Pity that I can't enjoy any real vacation after that, since classes start tomorrow. But you know, you roll with the punches. And honestly, it doesn't bring me down that classes start tomorrow. I have written a book. I have seen its voluminous pages neatly tucked into a Priority Shipping box and sent off to my editor. I have formally updated my CV to list the book as 'in press'. (This is the right term once it goes to copy editing, right? Another scholar is more f...

Meshalim/Amthal/Exiemplos: Notes from the Life of a Medievalist. Friday, April 17, 2015. Richard and Miguel: Some Additional Thoughts on Getting Kicked Out of Church. This is a modified and expanded version of a comment I made in the FB thread discussing my earlier blog pos. T; I'm sharing it here because it does allow me to flesh out a little bit some of the issues of handling cultural patrimony that were encapsulated in that bizarre encounter in the church:. Meshalim/Amthal/Exiemplos: Notes from the Life of a Medievalist. Friday, April 17, 2015. The One Where I Get Kicked Out of Church. This church, to be precise, the one in the Convent of the Barefoot Trinitarian Sisters. As part of my " you're stuck with the cultural history students for the rest of the semester. Meshalim/Amthal/Exiemplos: Notes from the Life of a Medievalist. Wednesday, May 20, 2015. Our Colonies, Our Selves. 160;These are some images from the Museum of America, which is not so much an anthropological museum that covers American civilizations, but rather a museum that is an inadvertent anthropological study of how Spain views the Americas. Its another one of these museums that began its life as a cabinet of curiosities (part of the royal one, in this case) and very much maintains that outlook.
Love and Disdain: Beckettesque moment, plus chametz
http://loveanddisdain.blogspot.com/2014/04/beckettesque-moment-plus-chametz.html
Tuesday, April 22, 2014. Beckettesque moment, plus chametz. Subtitled, "I can't do this anymore. I did it some more.". My point is that I dashed off an entire application for it in approximately ten minutes. And then went back to other, more promising stuff. Did you know that Blogger considers 'matzo' the standard spelling? I tried typing 'matzah,' and it complained of a spelling error. Apparently, if Blogger were Jewish, it would be Orthodox. Fie upon this quiet life! April 22, 2014 at 11:23 PM. Does th...
