Material Detachment: May 2015
http://materialdetachment.blogspot.com/2015_05_01_archive.html
So much fabric. Sew many paths. Thursday, May 28, 2015. Two "Just Because" quilts. I have two more Grace quilts. To report. But, since the gifts were not anonymous, perhaps I should call them something else. I made them "just because," so I'll call them "Just Because" quilts. Not your average 12-year-old. In my book, you are a winner! Yet she is the nicest person, very "soft" in character (I am always coaching her to bulldog her way to better results from the professionals who are supposed to be helping ...

Material Detachment: October 2014
http://materialdetachment.blogspot.com/2014_10_01_archive.html
So much fabric. Sew many paths. Saturday, October 18, 2014. It is what it is": antique Dresden plate finish! It is what it is." Not my favorite saying, especially since my favorite uncle, who I always considered wise, started using this phrase glibly in relation to just about everything around the time of my father's death 7 years ago. But, sometimes, the saying fits. This antique Dresden plate rescue is what it is. You might ask: Why put so much effort into something that is irredeemably damaged? These ...

Material Detachment: Pressure Drop
http://materialdetachment.blogspot.com/2015/07/pressure-drop.html
So much fabric. Sew many paths. Friday, July 10, 2015. After the Swoon Quilt. And all the anxiety involved in its 1.5-year gestation, I am glad to do a quilt just for the sake of it. And what better fabrics and colors to use than ones I have no investment in? Calm colors, easy colors, fabrics just sitting around. I only have 1 yard of it, so besides it and the stripes I've got these fabrics queued up to extend the idea (oh so casually), including my husband's old shirt:. Unfortunately, I am not motivated...

Material Detachment: Long-Arming the Swoon Quilt
http://materialdetachment.blogspot.com/2015/07/long-arming-swoon-quilt.html
So much fabric. Sew many paths. Monday, July 6, 2015. Long-Arming the Swoon Quilt. I spent the 4th of July weekend. you guessed it! Finishing up the Swoon quilt:. Months ago, at my request, the couple had visited my Pinterest patchwork page. And kept commenting on spiral quilting, so I had to break out of my "Meander" comfort-zone and go for some custom quilting to complement the patchwork:. But practically all the needle holes healed themselves in the wash! July 6, 2015 at 2:11 PM. I LOVE it too!

Material Detachment: December 2014
http://materialdetachment.blogspot.com/2014_12_01_archive.html
So much fabric. Sew many paths. Tuesday, December 16, 2014. Two quilts for KHOI. KHOI Community Radio is where I've put a lot of energy in the past couple of years. You could say my radio reporting has kept me out of trouble- or almost, anyway. Last month we had a fund drive with two matching donors providing $2500 each. Today, I presented quilts for them to the station. I wanted to make sure they felt the love. Sharing the love is what our community radio station does best (KHOI = "Heart of Iowa").

Material Detachment: Softness and Light
http://materialdetachment.blogspot.com/2015/08/softness-and-light.html
So much fabric. Sew many paths. Wednesday, August 5, 2015. I mentioned in an earlier post that my aunt had entered respite care. We have known she was ill for a year or two, but now there are no more ways to improve her condition. She lives halfway across the country, and we've never visited much, just kept up on facebook, at the holidays, and through notecards. So a lap quilt, I felt, was in order. About 1 month ago, and another batch is in the mail. You may notice that the quilting is rather dense....

Material Detachment: Manic Monday
http://materialdetachment.blogspot.com/2015/07/quilt-mania.html
So much fabric. Sew many paths. Monday, July 27, 2015. I am working on 4 projects at once. One. A green-and-orange pickle dish quilt for an October wedding. This one is under control. Paper piecing, bit by bit (sorry, no pic). The Pressure Drop quilt is growing. It is stalled out in my decision whether to change-up the backdrop to darks for more visual interest, or just keep it light (sorry about the picture quality). Please comment if you have an opinion. At any rate, I used the Palette Builder (see post.
