This is not a process which has occurred overnight and the modern suburban landscape is a veritable mixture of buildings, structures and open spaces dating from medieval times to the present day. The charm of many parts of London owes much to the lack of any serious attempt at large-scale urban planning. This is a London-wide project but with an emphasis on southwest London, in particular the Royal Borough of Kingston-upon-Thames.

Between Town and Country: The Suburban London Village. Today it is easy to forget that only a life-time ago these areas were made up of common and farm land with orchards, hedgerows and trees. These were flattened to make way for the rolling sea of bricks and mortar that became the new suburbia of largely semi-detached houses that we are now so familiar with, characterised by opposing styles of design from mock-Tudor, to Georgian and Modern, to name a few.

Was one of the first web sites I wrote in 1995, when putting pictures on the web was a novelty. The pictures date from the late 70s and early 80s, and were made when taking family photography seriously was almost unheard of.
