The chill is biting further into the day and the air is starting to nip in the shade but around the middle of the day the sun still rallies some strength. On the open slopes of Lighiche it's all blue and gold, and the sweat is running into my eyes. Denotes a huge serpent. The Etive mountains are nearby. The place of sharp stones'. Wednesday, 3 December 2014. From Kingussie I walked up by the Gynack Burn. A stream of cars was arriving at the local golf course - different strokes for different folks. I was heading straight for the rough. Beyond the manicured greens the glen narrows and the road winds though hoary trees bearded with lichen. The place of sharp stones'. Friday, 25 September 2015. I was on my way to Aberdeen for the weekend and decided to drop in for a half-day on Aberdeen's very own mountain, Lochnagar. Well that was the plan. It's easy going, from the sunny floor of the valley towards cloudy scree-torn heads of the mountain. The bridge over the Abhainn Sgaladail, which drains the northwestern aspect of Clisham and its satellites, is a much more sporting 50 metres above sea level. The world comes and goes. It's warm in the sun, cold in the cloud. I'm glad to crouch in the summit shelter for a bite and a drink. This is just the start though. Of planning is maybe a more accurate way of putting it, as attitude is so important to planning well for the conditions.
