Week 1 GAPS diet | Answers for Ava
https://answersforava.wordpress.com/2014/04/07/week-1-gaps-diet
Our journey to end the suffering with eczema. Week 1 GAPS diet. I was hoping to update more often, but there just isn’t enough time in the day. With all of the preparation and cooking on top of the usual duties…I find it near impossible to find the time. I do hope that our experience can benefit others though, so I will continue to post as often as possible. This past week we ate a lot of soup! We have continued with daily baths. We have been adding detoxing aids such as baking soda or Dead Sea Salt&...

Our journey to end the suffering with eczema. It has been a very long time since I have posted! I hope that there is still interest in following our quest to get some answers to why Ava suffers so with eczema. 1) We have discovered that she is sensitive to onions, garlic and cabbage – all of which she was eating in abundance on GAPS. It could be an issue with FODMAPS. 2) Her symptoms/reactions are consistent with histamine intolerance and GAPS is very high in histamine. Additionally, there is a doctor th...

Our journey to end the suffering with eczema. I have read many success stories from people that have embarked on this intense diet. I have known about it for a long time, even before Ava’s issues. I have intended to start the diet for at least a month now, but for one reason or another, we were delayed. Tomorrow is the day, though. Here are some pictures of the food I have been preparing:. A very large beef heart. I did the chicken stock in the Crock Pot. Week 1 GAPS diet ». March 31, 2014 at 2:22 am.

After NJH-what happens? | zoeynjh
https://zoeynjh.wordpress.com/2013/08/19/173
Ending the relentless itch. August 19, 2013. In After National Jewish Health. We’re home and anxious to find out if NJH really was the holy grail of emollient, and see if we can continue the healing with everything we’ve learned. Dr. Leung insisted I keep an eczema journal. I was always curious what the days following treatment at NJH looked like for other parents. I’m back to work later this week, and next week the real test will begin. Follow Blog via Email. Day 8 (Friday) last day at NJH | zoeynjh
https://zoeynjh.wordpress.com/2013/08/16/147
Ending the relentless itch. Day 8 (Friday) last day at NJH. August 16, 2013. In Eczema Treatment at National Jewish Health. Zoey and I woke up in a wonderful mood after sleeping until 7:30. Wet wrapped her face last night and she slept right through without pawing at her face once. I know this because I am unable (despite earplugs) to sleep through scratching. My confidence, mood and her skin is restored. This comes as a huge relief after years of intense worrying that avoiding eggs, milk, wheat and nuts...
Filaggrin | zoeynjh
https://zoeynjh.wordpress.com/2013/08/23/204
Ending the relentless itch. August 23, 2013. In After National Jewish Health. Dr Lanser from NJH called this afternoon to follow up on results on the filaggrin mutation tests. Since Zoey has had pretty severe and reactive skin since birth, and fits the descent profile, they decided to test the 5 most common mutations ( there are more than 40). Tests showed that she has two heterozygous filaggrin mutations. Dr. Lanser kindly took the time to explain, and re-explain what that was. Follow Blog via Email.
We don’t miss the misery | zoeynjh

Ending the relentless itch. We don’t miss the misery. August 30, 2013. In After National Jewish Health. The first 3 days back to Zoey’s regular classroom were wonderful and without incident thanks to Ms Heather. On Thursday Zoey transitioned to a new class, with new teachers and students within the daycare center. I picked Zoey up to take her home for the day a couple hours after that, and she was clear with no redness, was told by her teachers she didn’t itch once (RECORD), cheerful and felt prett...

Ending the relentless itch. Out of the bubble and into the woods. August 26, 2013. In After National Jewish Health. First day out of our allergen-free bubble. Hauled Zoey to daycare along with my new care plan (courtesy of NJH) tub o’ Vanicream, pile of washcloths, change of clothes, lunch, snack, 1/2 gallon of soy milk, nap sheet and blanket washed in our detergent. I really struggle in my attempts to communicate clear and completed instructions, without over complicating. Her hands are my litmus, and t...
The New Normal | zoeynjh

Ending the relentless itch. October 27, 2013. In After National Jewish Health. We’ve been in the clear for about 3 weeks now, and it seems that the biggest challenge of all was the flares in and around colds and infections. We are still giving baths once daily and haven’t needed topical steroids for almost a full month. Our typical day without flares still feels challenging, but the adherence to routine is worth the lack of itching. We’re looking forward to Halloween, easily Garland and Z’s f...7 respons...
Day 4 (Monday) | zoeynjh
https://zoeynjh.wordpress.com/2013/08/13/day-4-monday
Ending the relentless itch. August 13, 2013. In Eczema Treatment at National Jewish Health. Woke at 6:30 to get our wet wraps out of the way before heading off to NJH to meet with doctors. When we arrived Nurse Amy thought her skin looked so good that we would be able to skip the mid-day wet wrap (yay! Nurse Amy mixed whole pine nuts with chocolate syrup and started with 4 slowly increasing doses 20 minutes apart. And …by 2 pm she was officially cleared to eat pine nuts! After her nap we moved right on t...
Day 7 ( Thursday) | zoeynjh
https://zoeynjh.wordpress.com/2013/08/16/133
Ending the relentless itch. Day 7 ( Thursday). August 16, 2013. In Eczema Treatment at National Jewish Health. Zoey had a long night of discomfort and itching, I am assuming from the delayed reactions to the baked milk (which technically doesn’t happen). It could be from the first night without wraps on her face. Whatever it was , I was really dissapointed when she woke up a bit flared on her face. I went to a group meeting for parents, which I wish I had more opportunities to attend. 2 responses to &ldq...

Ending the relentless itch. Saturday and Sunday (break days). August 11, 2013. In Eczema Treatment at National Jewish Health. The blessed weekend is here, and though we need to continue the treatment we’ve learned so far ( all by ourselves-eek) they give you the weekend to relax. We were able to get into the Denver Zoo for free with our Ronald McDonald passes and like any kid, she loved it. During a Q& A, Z told them that she was one of the uncrowned kings of Ireland (long story) and she should be dancin...
