Antarctica Life

Seasons working in Antarctica for the USAP. Friday, February 03, 2006. Ah yes, back in Antarctica. after three months of traveling it seems good to be. And then I snap out of it and realize what. Currently we're in the middle of our vessel offload process which is pretty much exhausting. This is our resupply for the year and it's days of long shifts and work, work, work! Once vessel offload is over then people can leave and we can start digging in for winter! Posted by Heather and Pauli at 6:27 PM. Some ...

Antarctica Life: Quiet time...

http://antarcticalife.blogspot.com/2005/05/quiet-time.html

Seasons working in Antarctica for the USAP. Monday, May 09, 2005. A nice two day weekend to start off the month of May. Each month in Winter we get a extra day off so a REAL two day weekend! Mostly these are drunken and debauched times but Heather and I managed to avoid that and just lay low and enjoy the quiet. Lots of sleep and a few back-to-back episodes of Farscape and Sex and the City. Not a bad way to spend a weekend and no nasty after effects! Posted by Heather and Pauli at 2:47 PM.

Antarctica Life: Mid June...

http://antarcticalife.blogspot.com/2005/06/mid-june.html

Seasons working in Antarctica for the USAP. Tuesday, June 14, 2005. Ah, mid June. Cold. Dark. and halfway to Mainbody! Celebrated our annual "BLACK OPS" party on the 11th, coincidentally Heathers Birthday (here's a picture of Heather when she was only 3). Heather and I celebrated in usual form. Yes, the woman in red is Heather. I went for the more subdued/refined look of the mad scientist. And even MORE UFO's! So this coming weekend we have an unprecedented extra day off! Yep, another REAL 2 day weekend!

Antarctica Life: Mainbody starts TOMORROW!...

http://antarcticalife.blogspot.com/2005/10/mainbody-starts-tomorrow.html

Seasons working in Antarctica for the USAP. Sunday, October 02, 2005. Today is October 3rd and that means that the first flight of mainbody is scheduled for gulp TOMORROW! In the first week we are expecting to get about 500 more people in town and with only a handful of us "winter-overs" left, there won't be many leaving so it's just going to seem like an invasion! So check it out! Posted by Heather and Pauli at 12:24 PM. This comment has been removed by a blog administrator. Heather & Pauli.

Off Ice Antics...: Travel 2004, USA...

http://thedietsches.blogspot.com/2005/07/travel-2004-usa.html

When not in Antarctica my wife and I travel extensively around the world. Friday, July 08, 2005. Travel 2004, USA. We flew into Boston from Rome, Italy to see Heather's grandmother and east coast family. This leg of our round the world tickets had us flying with US Airways. And that was a BIG mistake! It was right about christmas time and US Airways was going through a bankruptcy. Our itinerary was pretty tight through our US travels. Posted by Heather and Pauli at 1:54 PM. Heather & Pauli. Antarctica Knitters

Wednesday, 8 January 2014. I hope your New Year has started off well and I really hope it's a great year for you and Tom! Perhaps you are the normal knitter after all.but what is normal anyway? That is why gauge is so important. To test your yarn, needles and knitting style to see if it matches up to the pattern you are knitting. If you don't do a swatch, it can be frustrating after all that knitting, to end up with something that doesn't fit. So, gauge is on my mind, can you tell? It's coming right alon...

Monday, 23 March 2009. All in a day's work. I've just found this post that I wrote 3 years ago but didn't publish. I might get around to updating this site one day! Today has been my last Monday at Rothera (the Ernest Shackleton arrives on Thursday and we depart for the Falklands on Sunday). The 1st dive of the morning - Birgit and I went in off the wharf on the hunt for brachiopods which are pink bi-valve molluscs (rather like a mussel but fatter and pink! antarctica lounge

Although the Antarctica Lounge (5226 Gravois Avenue) has been hosting karaoke nights and the occasional show already, the venue's official opening date is set for this Thursday. The space's schedule of weekly events so far includes: Thursday: Indie Rock Karaoke (initial list here - and really, any venue with that many choices from the Lemonheads, Morrissey and obscuro-pop geniuses Irving is okay in my book) Friday: "Are We Having Fun Yet? Black on black crime.
