Musings from an Outer-Spiral-Arm: May 2012

http://anthonyeaton.blogspot.com/2012_05_01_archive.html

Thursday, May 17, 2012. On the Life of a Chicken. So among all the fun and games of the last month (don't ask. Just. don't.), on monday this week I had to take Lottie, one of our Silky chickens, to the vet. And, trust me, you haven't lived until you've sat in the waiting room of your local veterinary hospital, holding a box with a fluffy looking chicken in it on your lap, surrounded by sniggering dog and cat owners. And, sadly, she didn't. Which, as you can imagine, was quite upsetting for all of us....

Musings from an Outer-Spiral-Arm: January 2014

Tuesday, January 7, 2014. Another wall in the way of Baby Boomer Relevance. A reply to Christopher Bantick, Writing inThe Melbourne Age, Jan 7, 2014. Yes, very bothered indeed. The vanity that is known as elitism pervades the culture to a corrosive extent. Older people have lost the ability to know when something is art, and worthy. Instead, they hang on every word of their preserved conservatives, mouthing broad and unsubstantiated generalities. Then there’s the toe-curling indulgence of those mus...

Musings from an Outer-Spiral-Arm: April 2013

http://anthonyeaton.blogspot.com/2013_04_01_archive.html

Thursday, April 18, 2013. Owing to the vagaries of life, I'm on something of a lack-of-time-and-energy-induced hiatus from blogging at the moment. I have high hopes of being back regularly a little later on this year, after I get my life back. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). View my complete profile. Anthony Eaton's books on Goodreads. Musings from an Outer-Spiral-Arm: Just When You Thought I'd Given Up Completely...

http://anthonyeaton.blogspot.com/2012/12/just-when-you-thought-id-given-up.html

Friday, December 21, 2012. Just When You Thought I'd Given Up Completely. That halcyon, golden summer last year, when I committed to blogging here every single week during 2012? Good I don't remember it, either. So it's been a busy* semester. And next year is looking similarly frantic, but there are a lot of good things happening. Probably the biggest one is that our little family is on the move! So now it's just a horrible wait for the results. In the meantime, though, I've got a bit of last minute shop...

Magic Casements: November 2011

http://magiccasements.blogspot.com/2011_11_01_archive.html

Books are windows into other lives, other worlds, other ways of being. In September, I spoke at the Ballarat. Writers' and Illustrators' Festival. My panel was called: Imagery in Fiction: Visualising, Imagining, Creating. While I spoke about landscape, Simon Swingler. Drew this illustration of me, which I love because it captures exactly what it feels like to have a place enter your consciousness and take over your thoughts. Recently, I've been dipping into Walden. Reading My Side of the Mountain. I read...

Magic Casements: March 2012

http://magiccasements.blogspot.com/2012_03_01_archive.html

Books are windows into other lives, other worlds, other ways of being. Tomorrow I'm heading off to Singapore for the Words Go Round Festival. I'm excited at the prospect of meeting hundreds of Singaporean students during the week but I'm also a little sad to be leaving home. We've been back Melbourne for a month, most of which has been taken up with unpacking and getting the hang of living in a house once more. After a year on the road it's been a big adjustment. Saturday, March 03, 2012. Three week resi...

Books are windows into other lives, other worlds, other ways of being. First and Last of 2013. The Clever Cats Book Club. Is my first release for 2013. I've always loved the Aussie Bites series of books for younger readers. It's taken me way too long to write one. Sometimes small books can present interesting challenges. The Clever Cats Book Club is illustrated by a wonderful young artist who just happens to be my second cousin, Florence Boyd. Thursday, May 23, 2013. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom).

Books are windows into other lives, other worlds, other ways of being. Old Self, New Self, Other Self. Warning. This blog post contains nepotism and a dose of nostalgia. Every time I looked at the invitation I felt nostalgic for all my kid's childhoods. Monday, February 04, 2013. I love the cover of this summer's Voiceworks magazine. Possibly, I'm biased because my son, Elwyn Murray, is the designer. But there are layers of ideas in his cover design that intrigue me. Books that Elwyn had loved when he wa...

Books are windows into other lives, other worlds, other ways of being. Barney, Carrie and Sam in Black. One of the most startling aspects of creating a character is the prospect that maybe, if you've done your work properly, that character will outlive you. Which makes you wonder, do characters mourn their creators? The American author Jean Craighead George. Died last year at the age of 92. During her lifetime she wrote many award-winning children's books but one of her characters was a particularly ...
