a wandering woman writes : Sanctuary
http://wandering-woman.blogspot.com/2013/04/sanctuary.html
A wandering woman writes. Monday, April 15, 2013. A place of refuge and protection. When I lived in Salamanca, my sanctuary. Y Melibea, nestled in the old walls of the city behind the Old Cathedral. Here in Chicago, I seek my refuge and protection in the Montrose Point Bird Sanctuary on Lake Michigan. On the far side of that tree you see above, facing Chicago's skyline, to be exact. Fellow Chicagoan The Orniphile. Later I wandered the Point's meadows, newly mowed down to spring stubble, and walked throug...

a wandering woman writes : Red Roses
http://wandering-woman.blogspot.com/2013/04/red-roses.html
A wandering woman writes. Sunday, April 28, 2013. One of my favorite humans brought me roses yesterday. He handed them to me as he arrived for a belated 50th birthday celebration. It was a lovely celebration: an evening walk to a delectable dinner at a Chicago tapas bar, a gift (a gift! A six pack of Three Floyd's oh so tasty Zombie Dust pale ale to accompany TV hockey as the evening drew to a close. A memorable evening. But oh, those roses. I confess to being giddy. a wandering woman writes : Yesterday's post - End of the quiet
http://wandering-woman.blogspot.com/2006/08/yesterdays-post-end-of-quiet.html
A wandering woman writes. Tuesday, August 29, 2006. Yesterday's post - End of the quiet. This post was written in my head Sunday and in Blogger yesterday, when the gods of photo upload decided not to cooperate. So here it is today, yesterday s "yesterday's post". Be kind to this little post; it's been through a lot. This is yesterday's blog post. Yesterday was another sunny Sunday in Salamanca, the kind of sunny that left me wanting to snap pictures then report back here. With the Plaza Colon kioskman sa...

a wandering woman writes : Once more, from the top
http://wandering-woman.blogspot.com/2013/04/once-more-from-top.html
A wandering woman writes. Monday, April 15, 2013. Once more, from the top. Eight years ago I wrote a blog post. Titled "Getting Started". Then I hit the "publish" button and started a blog. Eight years later - uncannily, eight years to the day, yesterday-. I found myself wandering a vaguely familiar text box, hoping to start a blog. I've bounced in and out of this text box since leaving mi querida. The eight year gap between the two starting visits was unplanned but lends today a symmetry I can't resist.

http://wandering-woman.blogspot.com/2006/10/dont-mind-me-im-playing-with-new-lens.html
A wandering woman writes. Tuesday, October 31, 2006. Don't mind me, I'm playing with a new lens. They're getting better, aren't they? I captured this gorgeous fading beauty in the Huerto de Melixto y Calibea. My huerto's been a bit too popular for my taste lately. A week of warm, blue-skied days has converted my usually deserted garden into a hotspot abuzz with corner téte a tétes, prone students barely glancing at their open textbooks, an aspiring painter, and roving bands of Spanish tourists. Get a tra...

http://wandering-woman.blogspot.com/2013/04/i-fell-in-love-with-this-song-few-years.html
A wandering woman writes. Saturday, April 20, 2013. The Chileans delighted in watching me fall for Lara that evening in Baltimore. They told me he was a poet, an assertion his lyrics have since borne out for me, and that he was not at all a handsome man, despite his talents for words and music. Apparently El Flaco de Oro. For now, know he is telling you he has loved, once, during his life. Once, his soul gave itself to another, with sweet and total renunciation. Posted by wandering-woman at 10:15 PM.

a wandering woman writes : A wedding in Salamanca
http://wandering-woman.blogspot.com/2006/11/wedding-in-salamanca.html
A wandering woman writes. Monday, November 06, 2006. A wedding in Salamanca. Sometimes I worry I go on too much. You know, about Spain. I don't mean to paint Spain as a paradise. I see things I'd change if I could. If only they mattered to me! My life here is simple. I am able to toss aside the frustrations that do come up because I am happy here. It's that easy. I suspect what the Spanish are teaching me is that wild abandon isn't actually reckless at all. The risk of wild abandon would be? The Old Cath...
