Out on the Streets | Lydia's Ethiopia Journey

https://anyroadanycost.wordpress.com/2010/05/22/out-on-the-streets

Lydia’s Ethiopia Journey. Down any road at any cost. Out on the Streets. May 22, 2010. Every day when I walk down the street I am confronted by the reality of poverty and disease and physical deformities; sometimes like I have never seen before. Every day the question stares me in the face, What are you going to do, Lydia? What do I do with the elderly men and women who sit on the side of the road and ask for money? Would I let them sit there begging? They are someone’s Grandpa and Grandma. What about al...

You Know You’re in Africa When… | Lydia's Ethiopia Journey

Lydia’s Ethiopia Journey. Down any road at any cost. You Know You’re in Africa When…. February 7, 2010. Just to let you in on the funny things about living in Ethiopia, I made this list. The first one was my inspiration for this entry : ). You have dead mosquitoes floating in your coffee and you still drink it anyway. Everyone thinks your name is Money because that’s what they yell to you when you walk down the street. There are donkeys and horses and other animals standing in the middle of the road.

A Glorious Collision | Lydia's Ethiopia Journey

https://anyroadanycost.wordpress.com/2010/04/02/a-glorious-collision

Lydia’s Ethiopia Journey. Down any road at any cost. April 2, 2010. On Friday March 12th, 6 months after leaving one world (the U.S.) and coming to another (Ethiopia), my two worlds collided. And what a glorious collision it was! Oh how sweet it was! From my journal Thursday, March 11, 2010…the day my family arrived in Ethiopia. Oh God, how I can’t wait to see how this (being in Ethiopia) will change my family’s life. Do things that I can’t begin to ask or imagine. Redi and my Dad at the blind school.

A Note to Ehko | Lydia's Ethiopia Journey

https://anyroadanycost.wordpress.com/2010/02/21/a-note-to-ehko

Lydia’s Ethiopia Journey. Down any road at any cost. A Note to Ehko. February 21, 2010. If you’re reading this, then your wonderful youth pastors, Eric and Jarrod, must have told you about a great opportunity that you have to bless the kids of Ethiopia! If I had to guess, I would say that you are blessed with most of the same things that I was blessed with. And so, I was wondering if you would think about doing something. Would you think about blessing the kids of Ethiopia? February 24, 2010 at 4:22 pm.

May | 2010 | Lydia's Ethiopia Journey

https://anyroadanycost.wordpress.com/2010/05

Lydia’s Ethiopia Journey. Down any road at any cost. Oh How He Loves Us. May 29, 2010. Living right next door to the youth center provides the kids with frequent opportunities to bang on our gate and ask us for things. The banging seems to be particularly incessant when there is no water. For some reason they think that if the youth center (which is right next to our house) has no water, then we must have water. And this is what happened last Saturday. Why don’t I give them a drink of water? For what hap...

Candles in Cambodia: Catching up...Part II

http://candlesincambodia.blogspot.com/2011/01/catching-uppart-ii.html

Sunday, January 9, 2011. Catching up.Part II. What color should I make the hands? One of our English library workers asked me during one of our help-us-decorate-the-English-library-for-Christmas-days. He was coloring a paper cut-out manger scene and wasn't sure what color skin Joseph was supposed to have. I told him to color it brown because Jesus and His family were from Asia. He thought that was funny and asked me if Christmas was American or Chinese (interesting! Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom).

Candles in Cambodia: June 2010

http://candlesincambodia.blogspot.com/2010_06_01_archive.html

Wednesday, June 30, 2010. Home is where His heart is. I don't like to do "countdowns" because they make me sort of nervous, even if I'm counting down to something I'm really looking forward to! But I can't help but notice that July 26th is literally just around the corner. Alicia is 15 now.the same age I was when she was born! Who among us is worthy enough to receive large sums of money from hardworking, regular folks? As I've been watching Father provide over such a short period of time, I've been struc...

Candles in Cambodia: July 2010

http://candlesincambodia.blogspot.com/2010_07_01_archive.html

Friday, July 30, 2010. And so it begins. On Monday when I arrived in Colorado, the first thing I noticed (besides the Greenpeace folks trying to get me to join their group) was that I was not sweating profusely. I think the last time I experienced not drowning in my own sweat everytime I stepped outside, was several months ago (maybe during that "snowstorm"? And after I leave this place in a few days, I probably won't experience that relief again until February when we are in "chilly" Thailand! Tuesday m...

Candles in Cambodia: May 2010

http://candlesincambodia.blogspot.com/2010_05_01_archive.html

Sunday, May 16, 2010. A Door Stands Open. On July 26th, 2010 I will, Lord willing, fly to Colorado where I will meet the other new team members (two single girls) and begin some initial cultural training. That training will be followed by an ESL training course which we will do in Vietnam. When that is finished, my teammates and I will join the rest of our team in Cambodia. Currently there are two couples and one very cute baby. My Team Director, as it turns out, is an excellent photographer! 2) Staying ...

Candles in Cambodia: December 2010

http://candlesincambodia.blogspot.com/2010_12_01_archive.html

Wednesday, December 29, 2010. Catching up.Part I. I have quite a few stories and photos to share! I will try to be brief and let the pictures do most of the talking.Enjoy! The biggest recent change is that I am now living with two Khmer (Cambodian) housemates! One of the best things abo. Sreylin also had a 2-week old puppy deli. Vered to her that day and asked us if we would want to take care of it. When we saw him we both said, um.yes please! Here are more photos from our trip that day. PS Since Ravy an...

Tuesday, October 12, 2010. Phnom Penh is cu. Rrently recovering from some minor flooding that took place this weekend. A couple of weeks ago, I was thinking that the rainy season was coming to an end soon, but riding my bicycle underwater the other night proved me wrong. Flooding at our university). Entrance to our neighborhood market where we usually buy our fruits and veggies). Right now, strangely enough, we haven't begun teaching our classes yet! Lydia's Ethiopia Journey | down any road at any cost

Lydia’s Ethiopia Journey. Down any road at any cost. Lessons from Lightning Bugs. July 18, 2010. A few evenings ago I was outside when I saw an unfamiliar flash of light. A lightning bug! I forgot about lightning bugs! For some reason I started thinking, I wonder if there is something I can learn about lightning bugs that will give me insight into life. That I was leaving early, but it was even harder to have to go to each of my friends and say, I’m sorry, but I’m leaving in two days, and I just came to ...

Author Bio & Contact. Losing Honeymoon Cabin For Good. June 22, 2015. This is a fantastic piece by an author that really kickstarted my exploration around this great state when I was first getting interested in backpacking. His note touches on a topic that I have acknowledged, but have failed to parse out regarding state operated backpacking routes; it explains this situation so well that I feel that it’s worth sharing for any fellow Michigan travelers.
