Trained staff adopt an empowering self-help and mutual aid approach when supporting Refuge resident's around their emotional and practical support needs. This enables the woman to make a decision that feels right for her within her situation. This support is available for residents to access 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year. We have experienced, qualified Childcare workers who provide a safe playroom environment where children are supported and encouraged to express their feelings.

Aoibhneas needs to continually fundraise for additional resources, as we are part funded by the Child and Family Agency and Dublin City Council. Since 2009 Aoibhneas has experienced a 24.5 % cut to core funding. Despite these cuts Aoibhneas has had to respond to the increased numbers of women and children seeking refuge and outreach support. Aoibhneas require core funding to provide a service geared to meeting the expressed needs of families who are in crisis. Registered Charity No. 8955.

Since working in the field, people have asked me “what type of woman ‘puts up with’ domestic violence? 8221; The above list is my answer. There is no ‘type’. Domestic violence knows no boundaries. Contrary to popular belief, it is not just middle-aged or married women who suffer abuse in the home – in fact, young women are more at risk. Shouldn’t we be asking what makes an abuser? We are now into day three of the 16 Days Campaign.
