Custom filters, Le Parfait and a crazy lady. 29 December, 2016. Take one phone camera, a dirty windscreen and pair of sunglasses for that apocalyptic sky look then combine. Look for a sign (nothing religious happened, so settled for road sign), powerlines, vapour trails and some mountains. Take photo. I was so proud of this shot I emailed it to my old photography teacher in the Netherlands. He has already rejected the colour and sent his version back to me in B&W! Phew, glad I wasn’t being marked. Olivey goodness | A Portuguese Adventure

https://aportugueseadventure.wordpress.com/2016/12/18/olivey-goodness

18 December, 2016. This year’s olive harvest – 29 jars of black olives preserved in brine/red wine vinegar, kalamata style. Not bad for one and a half small productive trees! 2 responses ». 18 December, 2016 at 5:13 pm. 1/2 a jar per week will allow you some left over in case of a poor harvest next year. Sooner you than me, much as I enjoy them. Aussie Dad and Jan. 19 December, 2016 at 10:51 pm. We love to hear from people, so please feel free to comment! Enter your comment here. What do you think? A Simple Living Journey....: June 2016

https://asimplelivingjourney.blogspot.com/2016_06_01_archive.html

Wednesday, 22 June 2016. The importance of the quiet work. We live in such a loud, switched on world these days. Every one is connected, the world is pushing us to do better, to be better. To be MORE. Then we are, to have more then we have. Like what we are and what we have is not enough in this world. But you know what? I'm not buying it. Why else would be teach the same lesson 100 times in 100 different ways because we believe it to be SO. Important that we refuse to give up on it. Parenting can be...

A Simple Living Journey....: De-cluttering, toys, christmas and simplicity.

https://asimplelivingjourney.blogspot.com/2016/12/de-cluttering-toys-christmas-and.html

Tuesday, 13 December 2016. De-cluttering, toys, christmas and simplicity. Kids toys.I am not entirely sure how they seem to expand and multiply when we are sleeping but they do! A few "hand-me downs" are kindly gifted, a birthday passes, a grandparent sees something they think a child might like and before you know it the toys are falling off the shelves.again! The tree is up - but alas its not "real" due to a house full of people terribly allergic to pine trees! We talk about keeping only what we use an...

A Simple Living Journey....: May 2016

https://asimplelivingjourney.blogspot.com/2016_05_01_archive.html

Friday, 27 May 2016. Sometimes we struggle to use a whole cabbage, and knowing how good fermented foods are for you I have been meaning to explore making sauerkraut for quite a while. The other day I went online and ordered a 3L ceramic fermenting pot. Mad Millie brand, I am very happy with the quality of the pot, it's handmade and I love the bright green of the pot. So cheerful! This link and instructions popped up into my news feed and it really is delightfully simple. I'm always looking for ways to us...

A Simple Living Journey....: December 2016

https://asimplelivingjourney.blogspot.com/2016_12_01_archive.html

Tuesday, 27 December 2016. A new season awaits! I can’t say I fully managed to find the deep Christmas joy this year after searching for it HERE. But I did have genuine snippets of joy, periods of contentment and laughter. Sometimes that's the best we can manage. Gingerbread house making - a family tradition. We had a wonderful time at a couple of carols with dear friends, made our gingerbread house, did the present thing. The kids had a special Christmas day with extended family kayaking on the lake.

A Simple Living Journey....: March 2016

https://asimplelivingjourney.blogspot.com/2016_03_01_archive.html

Thursday, 24 March 2016. So a while ago I wrote about allowing myself the time to do some of the things I have always wanted to do, you know the saying. All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy and all that! I didn't mean too but I had fallen into the rut of putting everyone else first and saying "yes" to more then I should. Nothing serious but something I think many of us do from time to time. The kind of habit that can really be draining if you leave it unchecked. Study is finally going somewhere&#46...

A Simple Living Journey....: November 2016

Monday, 28 November 2016. Thankyou everyone who took the time to leave such encouraging, understanding, helpful and thoughtful comments on my last post. I was very touched by the desire to help and so I thank you all with all my heart. It was very re-assuring to see I'm not actually the Chrismas Grinch and that many of us simple living folk have the similar feelings we are either working to overcome, or have had to overcome in the past. A little fence and repair to this little garden again! Its the exces...

A Simple Living Journey....: Compromise.

https://asimplelivingjourney.blogspot.com/2017/01/compromise.html

Wednesday, 11 January 2017. Grant and I have been doing some serious pondering lately. About life, about how the years pass. About the fragilness of life after an online friend passed too soon. A woman who forever left a mark on our heart after her quiet kindness and generosity. About the farm, we dream of but cannot buy until our business sells. We could hold out for what we know it's worth, but our children will grow older, these precious young years will be forever gone. The lessons we want to tea...

A Simple Living Journey....: October 2016

https://asimplelivingjourney.blogspot.com/2016_10_01_archive.html

Monday, 31 October 2016. Sometimes either on my blog or in my life people ask how we do it all. Renovate, own a business, study, work, raise children etc. I'm not special, nor even particularly good with time management. This is what it often looks like. Working on an assignment, late at night with a small child sleeping next to me. It means not watching T.V. at night when my husband is. It means saying "no" to things for the sake of sleep and sanity. Nothing beats that feeling! How to start a new hobby.

A Simple Living Journey....: A natter from the porch...

https://asimplelivingjourney.blogspot.com/2016/12/a-natter-from-porch.html

Thursday, 1 December 2016. A natter from the porch. I'm not quite sure what the trigger is, but I feel as if the pressure that built over the course of this year has finally slowly been hissing a slow and steady release. Over the last couple of days it feels like it has suddenly gone "whooosh! So much has changed. So much has happened this year. The devastating Pinery Bushfires. Renovations upon renovations. Remember what the cottage used to look like? Though I think we could do with a couple more. It ha...
