World Of Wood: Using The Tenoning Jig
http://world-of-wood.blogspot.com/2011/04/using-tenoning-jig.html
Using The Tenoning Jig. Step 1: Adjust Blade Height. First, lay out the tenon on the workpiece. Then butt the workpiece up against the back stop and clamp it in place with the ho/d-down bar. Next, adjust the height of the blade for desired depth of cut (length of tenon). Step 2: Adjust Back Stop. Now you can adjust the back stop. To do this, slide the tenoning jig so the back stop is over the blade. Then lower the back stop until it just touches the saw blade at its highest point. Stop for Inside Cut.

World Of Wood: Router Table Indexing Jig
http://world-of-wood.blogspot.com/2012/01/router-table-indexing-jig.html
Router Table Indexing Jig. Recently I had to cut a series of evenly spaced dadoes across the sides of some small display shelves I was making. I wanted to make the dadoes on my router table, and I needed a way to space them evenly. That's when I came up with the idea for an auxiliary table fitted with an index pin as shown in the photo. Next I inset a strip of wood into the top to serve as an index pin for spacing the dadoes, see Figure 1. Libellés : Router Techniques. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom).

World Of Wood: Vacuum Hose Bracket
http://world-of-wood.blogspot.com/2012/04/vacuum-hose-bracket.html
The drum sander on my drill press works great for sanding curves — but it produces a lot of dust. If you don't have a dust collection system, here's a handy clamp you can make that will allow you to attach the hose from a shop vacuum to your drill press table. Libellés : Around the Shop. June 21, 2013 at 11:35 PM. The flat part of the paddle are also filed sharp, thus taking out large shavings similar to what you get from a wood lathe. For drilling wood the paddle bit is fast but to crude for good fi...

World Of Wood: Routing Stopped Flutes
http://world-of-wood.blogspot.com/2012/02/routing-stopped-flutes.html
Recently I was making a bookcase with stopped flutes on the side. I was disappointed when I noticed my router bit left some pretty bad burn marks at the end of each flute. Routing a stopped flute usually results in burn marks at the ends. The ramps lift the bit out of the flute, leaving a clean, tapered end. The ramps are nothing more than scraps of “2x4” stock with arcs cut in them, see Fig.1. You could also tape the ramps down with double-sided carpet tape.) With a jig or edge guide attached to you...

World Of Wood: Tips for cutting tenons
http://world-of-wood.blogspot.com/2011/05/tips-for-cutting-tenons.html
Tips for cutting tenons. A tenon has two essential parts - the cheeks and the shoulders, see Fig.1. The purpose of the cheeks is to provide a gluing surface against the sides of a mortise (a square hole or slot cut in the adjoining piece to accept the tenon). The other important parts of a tenon are the shoulders. The shoulders are designed to do a couple of things. First, they cover up any small gaps around the mortise. And they contribute to the mechanical strength of the joint. Then the workpiece is t...

World Of Wood: Bevels of Another Degree
http://world-of-wood.blogspot.com/2012/01/bevels-of-another-degree.html
Bevels of Another Degree. On a recent project, I wanted a 30° chamfer on an edge. However, all I had was a 45° chamfer bit. I didn't want to buy a new bit for what was likely to be a one-time use, so I found a way to make the 45° bit work for me. The solution was to create a 15° wedge for the base of my router, which put the cut I wanted right at 45°. To ensure a stable base, the wedge has to be wide enough to reach the outside edges of the router (see detail). Libellés : Router Techniques. Fitting a Mor...

World Of Wood: Fitting Inset Doors
http://world-of-wood.blogspot.com/2012/01/fitting-inset-doors.html
Fitting inset doors to a cabinet opening has always been a hassle for me, especially if the cabinet opening isn’t perfectly square. But recently, I came up with a quick and easy method of trimming doors with a router and flush-trim bit. To begin, just mark the desired trim line near the edge of the door. Then place a long, straight board under the door along the layout line to act as a guide for the bearing of the router bit. Libellés : Router Techniques. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom).
