It has been said that education's purpose is to replace an empty mind with an open one. There's nothing wrong with spotting questions, but if one takes a module just to satisfy a requirement and closes his mind to it, he will finish it thinking it is a waste of time, though his own attitude has made it a self fulfilling prophecy. With many hawkers doing so and with food making up a large part of the CPI, why is it so surprising that inflation is high? Out of touch with reality? Or simply too buried in the figures? Sunday, May 25, 2008. Working a 5 day week 8.30 to 6pm job is really a slog. It takes 2 hours for me to get home during peak hours, then by the time I've finished dinner and washing up it's 9pm. A couple more hours later and it's time to sleep to prepare for the next day. Then the whole cycle repeats itself. Weekends suddenly seem very short, and a long weekend is a great relief. One good thing about my internship is that I don't have to bring work home, so can do my own stuff when I'm not working.

Friday, August 10, 2007. One of the highlights was the hall initiation. After playing a disability game, all the freshies were ushered into the hall and told to sleep on mattresses there. The sleeping area was surrounded with tables placed vertically, forming a little enclosure. After we switched off the lights, the seniors went to prepare for the next event. Thursday, November 30, 2006. Three papers later, and I think it has been pretty ok so far. My first three papers were all closed book ones, so in my opinion they were the toughest, plus having maths and physics on the same day certainly didn't help. Wednesday, January 02, 2008. Trying windows live writer as a way of blogging. Their web layout doesn't seem to work for my blog, or maybe I just don't know how to use it. Monday, July 14, 2008. YH has pointed out, quite correctly, that tailgating actually saves fuel. This is due to the reduced air resistance acting on the tailgating car. It's also known by the much cooler sounding term "drafting". I don't use this fuel conservation tactic, it's too dangerous. Thursday, July 27, 2006. Was out for more than 12 hours yesterday. First, I went to NUS with chee hui and kenny in the morning to check into hall. Anyway, ratatouille is an animated film about a rat who wants to cook. The quality of the animation is stunning. The scenes are so vivid and detailed, it's amazing how the animators managed to use computers to create all the characters and make them move in realistic ways.
