Monday, May 25, 2009. Alternative career profile: Rachel Carson, scientist and writer. I thought it would be fun to start posting profiles of people in alternative careers. Recently, I ran across a very interesting such profile in the publication, "Science Editor", the monthly journal of the Council of Science Editors (I'm a member). April’s issue had an eye-opening story about Rachel Carson, the environmental activist best known for her book, “Silent Spring.”. Links to this post. Wednesday, May 13, 2009.

http://mistressofscience.blogspot.com/2009/12/so-now-that-ive-mastered-science-whats.html
Life after graduate school, pursuing science, and experiments in happiness. Thursday, December 3, 2009. So, now that I've Mastered science, what's next? Boy that's a question you never stop getting asked, is it? What do you want to be when you grow up? How do you evaluate a job offer? I mean there's the obvious issues; salary, benefits, opportunity for advancement, yadda yadda. But how do you determine if you'll enjoy the work environment? If you have some.). In the past I've read that the main reason fo...

mistress of science: Breakdown, meltdown, cracking up...
http://mistressofscience.blogspot.com/2008/03/breakdown-meltdown-cracking-up.html
Life after graduate school, pursuing science, and experiments in happiness. Sunday, March 30, 2008. Breakdown, meltdown, cracking up. I had my first real stress induced breakdown of my graduate career this afternoon. I made it through the first two terms without being reduced to a puddle of tears, but no more. Yes, it is completely girlie to cry when you are stressed, but I am a girl - so bite me! Totally unbelievable. . It sounds absurd, I know, but I can't help but feel there is a little truth in it.

Life after graduate school, pursuing science, and experiments in happiness. Tuesday, April 14, 2009. Eating well - budgeting and time. I know every graduate students main concern with cooking "from scratch" and generally eating well must be the time it takes, followed by the cost. I thought it would take me too much time to prepare meals if I. Removed all processed foods from the grocery list. Three investments that save lot of time and money, if you can afford them:. 1 Crock pot. . 160;and took me 2-...

Microbiologist XX: Dumb F**king Donkeys Strike Back
http://microbiologistxx.blogspot.com/2011/01/dumb-fking-donkeys-strike-back.html
Ramblings of a female microbiologist. Wednesday, January 26, 2011. Dumb F* king Donkeys Strike Back. I’m sure this is common in many labs, departments and offices: Some dumb fucking donkey (DFD) takes advantage of a good situation and everyone suffers because the people in charge prefer punishing everyone instead of confronting the person who is actually causing the problem. These instances might include, but are not limited to the following examples. Solution: Instead of speaking to DFD, the entire lab ...
