The April 12 Foundation awards scholarships for use at the following types of institutions:. Universities (including the University of Sierra Leone’s Fourah Bay College and Njala University). Secondary Schools (including the Secondary School at Petifu, Lokomasama and West African Methodist Collegiate Secondary School). The scholarships reward excellence as exemplified by academic achievement and extracurricular activities including commitment to community service. April 12 to July 12.

Dr Kanu was born in northern Sierra Leone and was among the first generation in his family to receive a western education. He attended the West African Methodist Collegiate Secondary School, and completed his undergraduate studies at the University of Sierra Leone’s Fourah Bay College.
