The Sound In Your Head. Wednesday, August 24, 2005. Poor Conversationalists = Free Jazz Musicians. I have little patience for people that:. A) talk too much. B) interrupt conversations without sufficient reason (sufficient = some piece of information that benefits all participants of the conversation). C) don't listen to or ask questions of others. E) use speaking volume and aggression to bully in conversation. It's all very lovely - we have a conversational topic and opinions of individuals that get exp...

The Sound In Your Head. Sunday, September 14, 2003. Bringing Intelligence To Your Practice. So how is it that a person trained as a musician finds herself delving into hard science on the road of developing musicianship? I was at a loss. I'd grown up musically along the conveyor belt approach to teaching music applied through the public school system and had all but lost hope that I would ever be a good musician. And then I lost hope. The first science I consciously was explored cognitive science. I ...

The Sound In Your Head. Tuesday, June 15, 2004. I am unpacking my belongings and arranging them in my new apartment here in California. Moving is an interesting process; it reveals many things about one's relationship with one's things. I have two bookshelves in my apartment one is tall the other short. The tall bookshelves have doors on the bottom half; the doors conceal the content of the two bottom shelves. Maybe as corny as it sounds surrender really is worth something. There's no reason I couldn't sing and play my sax in one of these right in the middle of my living room next to the electronic equipment rack and computer table. Posted by Stacia @ 9:41 AM. The Sound In Your Head. Saturday, July 30, 2005. Why Can't I Speak? I'm so blooming scared to speak my mind I never realized it so much before. I do fine when I'm talking with people in the context of something else - work or meditation school not a problem. But to talk to people freestyle - I'm fooked and why is that? People like to tell stories about their lives and for some reason much of the time with most people I don't feel inclined to do so. Part of me says, 'hurr-fuckin'-ah! I've been accused in ...

I don't know for certain except to say that if you google 'grief' or 'grieving' you'll get a barrage of links for information having to do with bereavement. Posted by Stacia @ 7:58 AM. The Sound In Your Head. Monday, January 28, 2002. Intellectual Knowledge Versus Experiential Awareness. Last week, I got email from a friend who made reference to the flaunting of an intellectually stunted brain. His comment reminded me that I needed to write the following post. There's a fundamental difference between intellectual knowledge and experientially applicable awareness particularly when talking about making music (or doing anything for that matter). What's a rich musical process? Last night I...
