Monday, June 2, 2014. 40 days without Facebook. April 20th - Resurrection Day- (commonly called easter) I decided to do something a little different. We have been exploring our faith from a different perspective this past year or so. rather than just blindly accepting the things we have always been taught, we have been researching them, studying them, to see if they prove true. If you are interested in learning more about this - you might try this book. So what does all this have to do with Facebook?

Monday, October 21, 2013. Homeschooling through High School Part 2. But, one book I have found particularly helpful is. The Ultimate Guide to Homeschooling Teens. This wonderful book greatly helped me clarify what so many mentor moms had tried to explain! Some questions to thoughtfully consider. Where is the best place for my child to experience the Grace of God which leads to repentance? Where is the best place for my child to grow towards Christian maturity? As they have gotten older the relationships ...

Dead Fish Swimming: September 2013
http://sillinfam.blogspot.com/2013_09_01_archive.html
Wednesday, September 18, 2013. Fall is here, the season of harvest is upon us. This year has been quite the challenge. With no time to put in a garden, or even go to the Amish auction, no time for canning, what is a good country homeschooling mom to do? I have no idea, but we did decide to go roller skating yesterday. Two hours of fast paced fun for the kids, meeting new moms, and chatting with friends about what they are canning, how their gardens are still producing. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). The Hom...

Dead Fish Swimming: Permission

Friday, July 3, 2015. I talked to a mom the other day about co-op. One of the reasons we participate in co-op is because it allows us to have some fun things all in the same place, on one day. It is a real time saver for us and allows us to have more. Time together through out the week. She says to me:. Well, Monday nights we have a club, and Tuesday nights dance, and Wednesdays we have AWANA, and Thursday another club, and Friday we have a church activity. Mom, can I encourage you for a minute? There is...

Dead Fish Swimming: April 2015
http://sillinfam.blogspot.com/2015_04_01_archive.html
Wednesday, April 22, 2015. Last November we moved. We moved at the end of a long journey - we had waited 7 years for our house fire claim to be over - finally it was! We received restoration and we were JOY FILLED to find a lovely home, which met all of our needs and almost all of our wants at a steal of a deal! Think about that for a minute and now consider this. In the midst of your move on moment, don't give up hope. Some moves are fast and some take time - some take years! Sometimes move on moments c...

Dead Fish Swimming: January 2015

Thursday, January 22, 2015. Deep in conversation her name is mentioned with awe and respect. She's the 'Veteran Homeschool Mom' I feel like I'm back in middle school looking at the cool kids across the cafeteria, sigh. In the interest of full disclosure, I do not consider myself a 'Veteran Homeschool Mom'. PE class at my house may or may not consist of ' go outside'. My kids have not always used vitamins, supplements, essential oils, and we do not grow all of our own food or bake all of our own bread.

Dead Fish Swimming: Understanding your Co-op or support group.
http://sillinfam.blogspot.com/2015/06/understanding-your-co-op-or-support.html
Sunday, June 28, 2015. Understanding your Co-op or support group. Every year about this time I get a TON of questions about co-op and while some of these questions are very surface like "What classes do you offer? Some are very probing "How much do you get paid to run this? So - I'm going to take a minute to explain some of the inner workings of ELCC - the co-op where I am a co-director. ELCC was founded by a group of moms in 2009. This small group grew into a larger group of families. We offer classes y...

Dead Fish Swimming: March 2015

Tuesday, March 17, 2015. My kids used to play baseball. One of the things that always drove me nuts were the chanting, heckling, cheers of the teams at the batter. "Hey, batter, batter batter, batter, swing! How could they have come through all of that and still have any doubts about God's provision? Yet Moses was surrounded by an enemy chanting far worse than 'Hey batter batter batter batter.". His enemy said "You can't do it! You'll fail" "You'll be destroyed" "No one will follow you! The Amalekites li...

Tuesday, November 25, 2014. Homeschooling through Highschool - Citizenship. His eyes look so green when he cries. He must get that from his father. Maybe it is because his face is red that his eyes look green. I know you don't like how I handled that Mom, but I did what I thought was best.'. How can I agree with doing that which you believe is right, speaking truth, and yet disagree with the method of speaking? I read James and so much of it speaks to me, calls to me, "Hide this in your heart! James 2:1 ...
