A record of my final year at university.and beyond. Looking good this week. In the foreground is Euphorbia mellifera (honey scented flowers in May). It's meant to be placed in full sun, but it's coping well in this sheltered spot. Posted by dickie @ 4:37 pm. Just completed, from a design I did at the backend of last year before college took over (and with a few changes)! Posted by dickie @ 12:19 pm. Ball and it's working well with the Melianthus major in the background. Posted by dickie @ 8:25 am. Tulbag...

A record of my final year at university.and beyond. Whilst flicking through the latest edition of Gardens Illustrated I came across an article about the sculptor Barbro Raen Thomassen who examines weed seeds close up, then sculpts them in Portland limestone. This, together with her landform art, has triggered off all sorts of ideas for my detailed area. Seating, impressions of seeds in paving materials, mounds representing the shapes of bits of old mechanised farming machinery.my head is spinning! It's a...

A record of my final year at university.and beyond. I seem to be running into peak birthday season, so was out to a late lunch yesterday with some wine shop owners. Great wine (1982 Australian John Riddoch Wynns Coonawarra) and an ok lunch (The Hill , Greenwich). As for a present, well I haven't had much time to go out shopping so. images from the detailed area, hastily pasted into a frame I had hanging around.Who's a cheapskate? Posted by dickie @ 9:51 am. A record of my final year at university.and beyond. Have been looking at articles about Ben Law's self built house in Sussex, that was featured in Grand Designs a couple of years ago . Really worth a look at the link and also at the information on the 'diet of a forest dweller', for information about trees, fruit and vegetable growing within a woodland environment. A record of my final year at university.and beyond. Horse Chestnut Leaf Miner. The Horse Chestnut Aesculus hippocastanum. At the bottom of my garden is under attack. The culprit Cameraria ohridella, first observed in Macedonia in the late 1970's. It was first noted in the UK in 2002 in Wimbledon, and has since spread to much of the south east. All the other Horse chestnuts in my local area seem to be affected by this moth.has it spread to yours? Posted by dickie @ 7:24 am. Posted by dickie @ 8:37 am.

A record of my final year at university.and beyond. So's not to waste any time, I've come up with a plan. Posted by dickie @ 3:13 pm. I feel I've sinned. Went to a birthday party yesterday and a plant sale at the Museum of Garden History today (Picture of the knot garden left). Have just done the lighting concept this afternoon and have peeked at the list of things left to do. Setting out and drainage next and then.the hard and softworks layouts and the site contextural board - What the hell are they?

A record of my final year at university.and beyond. How cool is this. A Peregrine Falcon, sitting on a window ledge opposite my house. Can't quite believe it. It's still sitting there now. Was talking to the builders working nearby who had also seen it, and apparently a pair are living on top of the old Mumford Flour Mill adjacent to Deptford Creek, and are feeding on seagulls and pigeons. Only the second time I've seen one so I'm pretty excited! Posted by dickie @ 2:35 pm. Posted by dickie @ 8:37 am.

A record of my final year at university.and beyond. Silos to the left. The presence of the silos indicates the past use of the site as a farm. The smooth white stems of the birch contrast with the rusting silos. Log piles follow the form of the silos and this, together with under storey planting, aims to attract wildlife. (The silos also present the opportunity to add signage advertising the entrance to the site). Posted by dickie @ 4:29 pm. Posted by dickie @ 3:51 pm. Posted by dickie @ 8:22 am. Have fi...
