Thursday, August 09, 2012. In Ireland for the Willie Clancy Summer School. My first stop after getting off the plane in Dublin was Galway. There were some concurrent festivals going on, but the biggest was to celebrate the end of the Volvo international boat race. Fairground with some old boats hanging out. Some of the Volvo boats close up. The thin red line is the race route. Some final racing off in the distance, low tide. Some of the strange seaweed on the Galway beach, with floaters incorporated.

My first independent adventure. Tuesday, February 22, 2005. Like I wrote a month or so ago, lots of things are sold on carts. This man is selling anything related to cleaning. Mops, brooms, buckets, even front door mats. This man is selling gozleme. You can see the thin dough on the left and the cooking surface shaped like a mushroom on the right. My first independent adventure. Friday, October 29, 2004. Yesterday morning I was lounging around in my pajamas when I heard music from a marching band waft up to my apartment. I threw on some clothes and ran a brush through my hair only to get to the bottom of the hill to find everything was normal. The marching band was gone. Enormous flag and sparkle man dazzled the crowd once more with his huge red firework by lighting it in the middle of the crowd, which you can sort of see in this blury picture here.

Then you sit down and wait for them to serve you bread, ayran (a mixture of yogurt, salt, and water), and maybe they'll offer you some soup. In the photo here you can see various types of kebaps. My first independent adventure. Thursday, May 12, 2005. It's been a while. I've been meaning to post my last entry for a long time, but have been postponing it. I started an article about the call to prayer, and even got close to finishing it, buy with the move back to the States, applying for school in a rush, and starting back at work, I misplaced it and possibly even lost it. Here's the beginning of the article I started a few moons ago. The words of the call are sung in Arabic and are translated.

My first independent adventure. Wednesday, June 15, 2005. Well, almost. The weather feels summer-like. I feel I should change the title of my blog, seeing as I'm not in Turkey anymore, and haven't been for quite some time. Here is a picture of some dried poppy plants my friend gave me back in Trabzon. She said they grow like crazy in the Izmir region, but people who grow them can only have so many due to government restrictions. Gotta keep away from the opium dealers or something. Its been a while.
