H and Js Beer Blog. Our goal is to visit every microbrewery in the state of Michigan. Join us on our adventures! Monday, July 26, 2010. Grand Rapids area breweries. Oh Founders, how we love thee. Jeff told me he couldn't possibly blog about Founders, as its greatness should go without saying. I argue that for prosperity's sake, we must review ALL breweries we've attended. Thus, I will attempt to blog about our Cheers, also known as Founders. Celebrating my 30th in style - at Founders with beer and cake!

Zombie Beer Geeks: February 2010
http://zombiebeergeeks.blogspot.com/2010_02_01_archive.html
Thursday, February 11, 2010. Blueberry Oatmeal Stout and a New Gadget. 8oz-55L British Crystal Malt. 2oz-East Kent Goldings (I used American Goldings. That’s what the LHBS had on hand). 35 oz-Wyeast Scottish Ale yeast slurry (The yeast was saved over from another batch. I actually pitched more like 4.5oz just to be safe). 1-Roast the Oats in the oven for 75 minutes on 325. Stir every 15 min or so. 3-Sparge the grains/oats with half a gallon of 150 degree water. 7-Cool wort and pitch yeast.

Zombie Beer Geeks: Parti-Gyle Part One
http://zombiebeergeeks.blogspot.com/2010/12/v-behaviorurldefaultvml-o.html
Thursday, December 16, 2010. First step- Make the recipes. I am usually looking to brew a certain style of beer. So if I want to make an IIPA I will start by making up a 6 gallon recipe in Beer Smith. After I have something that I want to brew it’s time to do some math. With the recipe done I know that the OG of the IIPA should be 1.090. Using the parti-gyle calculator ( http:/ www.astrocaver.com/java/Parti-Gyle.html. Since I am adding sugar to the IIPA the gravity will reach what I’m looking for. Columb...

Zombie Beer Geeks: April 2009
http://zombiebeergeeks.blogspot.com/2009_04_01_archive.html
Wednesday, April 22, 2009. Irish Red to the Secondary. Friday, April 17, 2009. The Hops are Planted. I finally got around to getting the trellis up and the hops planted. The trellis looks kinda bare and weird right now. I wonder what my neighbors think of it? Well there are 3 varieties in the ground. Cascade, Willamette, and Nugget. Chicken wire has been placed around them, so the rabbit Ben can't catch wont eat them. I have my fingers crossed that these things will grow. Thursday, April 16, 2009.
