Wednesday, May 9, 2012. Sparkfun MP3 Trigger Board. I started working on the sound system for R2. First I needed to solder some pins for the power (right) and the 12 connecting pairs (left) for the remote receiver that will trigger each sound. Every piece had to be test-fitted to make sure it was easy to put together but snug enough that it would not fall apart. Here is the front view of the completed frame. Cost of materials is about $50. I am waiting to cut the Large Data Port opening on the top ring untill the resin LDP arrives. This will then determine the positioning of the skins. I finished glueing up R2's skin. Sunday, February 13, 2011. The beginning of the build. My goal is to have an R2-D2 that can move around on 3 legs, turn his dome, and have lights and sounds. Anything extra will be determined later on by how expensive it is and how hard is is to incorporate into the build. This section show the build process for R2-D2's feet.R2-D2's feet are comprised of 3 major parts. The motor holders, the foot shells, and the battery boxes. I started with a lot of clamps and used Ambroid ProWeld to glue most of the parts. The first pieces are glued together. Then the glued pieces are clamped to each end of the oval back piece.
