The Pop-Up City | ArchitectWeekly

http://www.architectweekly.com/2013/01/the-pop-up-city.html

Who would have thought that beer crates would be used to create a gigantic temporary pop-up Cathedral in Belgium? Well, they have. I think the pictures below can explain better what I'm on about! Designed and created by Architectural Firm SHSH, 33,000 empty yellow beer crates were painstakingly fastened together into an intricate design that eventually ended up turning into a massive Cathedral! All those crates would have taken a while to collect that's for sure! Published: 20.01.13 at 18:44.

Image Credit: Ryan Holland, 2013. The View from the Shard. Is the new public viewing platform, occupying the highest habitable levels of The Shard. 3096 metres (1,016ft) high. 11,000 glass panels. 54,000 m3 of concrete. The total piles supporting the building would measure 13.7km if laid end to end. 44 lifts, including double-decker lifts. 306 flights of stairs. 95% of the construction materials are recycled. There are 72 habitable floors. The top 9 floors in the 'Spire' are open to the elements. Not for...

Reclaiming Public Spaces: Our Love Affair with the Past | ArchitectWeekly

http://www.architectweekly.com/2015/03/reclaiming-public-spaces-our-love.html

169; Kansas City Car Park. As an avid book lover and passionate literature student, the sheer delight which I felt when taking a peek at. Kansas City’s beautifully renovated car park. Recording Our Stories, Recycling Our Memories. Where people turned war and pain into art. They are the brutally honest portraits of our time, perhaps in some ways more authentic than the classical murals and frescoes which we have come to revere. Is now a national heritage site, and other similar cultural shrines are now pr...

Kansas City Car Park Transformed into Gigantic Bookshelf | ArchitectWeekly

http://www.architectweekly.com/2014/03/kansas-city-car-park-transformed-into.html

The south facade of the Public Library Car Park, in Kansas City has been transformed into a gigantic and rather striking bookshelf. We are no stranger to unusual architectural design on ArchitectWeekly, from buildings made of beer crates. But this is the style of design that really brings architecture to life. 8 Questions to Ask Before Hiring an Architect for your Residential Project | ArchitectWeekly

http://www.architectweekly.com/2015/01/8-questions-to-ask-before-hiring.html

1 Do you like their current projects? As a general rule, an architect's portfolio reflects their passion — revealing the type of projects that excites them; however, there are those times that an architect's portfolio is so diverse that it requires that you ask them about their latest projects to get an idea of where they are currently at. 2 Which projects represent their best work? 3 What is the potential of my project? 4 How do they manage the permit review and regulations process? Actually, the method...

Architect Web Designer

My new website was created with EvoPages! Did you know that nearly 100% of Architect firm websites fail! It's true, industry surveys revealed that the majority of architects interviewed confirm that their websites do not produce what they are designed for, leads. Don't fret, it is natural to think that when you show a prospect your beautiful building designs and construction that they will want to do business with your firm. So you engage a web designer to create what essentially is a brochure online.

Ornament and Crime: Complexity and Contradiction in Architecture. In other words, they mark familiar territory in our minds. If ornamentation were to be discarded, wouldn't everything turn generic in its bland existence? While not exactly favoring ornamentation as one sees it around these days, it would not be improper to question the relevance of self without ornamentation. Is it not ornamentation that allows personal idiosyncrasies and individuality to co-exist with societal norms? The function of a bu...
