In 1993 my wonderful friend, Bill Brody (with whom I had become acquainted while I served as a visiting faculty member at the University of Alaska Fairbanks a few years before) invited me to join him, artist darleen masiak, and three climbers for my first venture into the Brooks Range. I'm a graphic designer in Fairbanks. I've traveled in the Refuge four times since 1988, including my honeymoon in 1991 at Sunset Pass with my wife Marion. Nature is my inspiration, and spending several weeks in wilderness areas enables me to set up a rhythm that is different from my every day life throughout the year.
