Sunday, May 11, 2014. I got a great deal on some food grade 55 gallon drums. So I decided to make a few of them into raised beds. The project was fairly simple, I cut the barrels in half, filled with stone to promote drainage, and then covered in dirt. I made very simple bases from crossed 2x4's. Sunday, April 27, 2014. Worm Farm Part 2. A couple of years ago we built a worm farm. It was built from a couple of rubber-maid containers and while it worked pretty well, the heat got to the worms and they ended up dying off. Click here for more information on that project. Tuesday, May 6, 2014. I came across a pretty good deal on these 5 gallon buckets. They once held splenda so it was pretty easy to rinse them out and get them ready to be used. Since I had 15 of these I decided to turn some of them into herb gardens with a several herbs. To make I simply cut straight lines into the barrel, using a heat gun I heated the barrel and stuck pieces of pipe into the slots to distort their shape. Inspiring in that one could purchase thousands of dollars of groceries and incidentials for pennies on the dollar. Saturday, March 8, 2014. Well it has been a while. Well it has been a while since my last post. We tried to garden through the winter but we had an unusually harsh winter this year. About 1/2 way through the wind knocked down some of the plastic sheeting we had up on the greenhouse and before we knew it, everything had died. We did not try to restart it.
