https://arielbowman.wordpress.com/2012/08/26/new-pieces-chronos
Process, Methodology, and Final Works. Welcome to Florida: The Armory Art Center Experience →. August 26, 2012. One of my most recent pieces has been based on my research trip to the Paris Natural History Museum. This is the 20ft. tall giant ground sloth, or Megatherium that I studied there. Seeing this complete skeleton up close gave me a really good idea of how to go about sculpting this strange animal. I started by doing some studies of the giant sloth’s anatomy and making a small version of the...

Process, Methodology, and Final Works. Residency Exhibition and New Work. Palaeoartistry: Sculpting at the Fort Worth Museum of Science and History →. August 18, 2013. Once this oil clay sculpture is complete it is ready for cutting and molding. a piece like this has to be cut into multiple sections to be molded because the forms are too complex to cast in one piece. A mother mold is a hard shell that holds the rubber in the correct shape when you pour waxes. The fiber glass acts as a weave holding t...

Process, Methodology, and Final Works. My home in Dallas, TX. where I grew up will always have a special place in my work. In growing up there, my childhood was filled with animals, woods and lakes, and open spaces. My strongest connections with nature began when I was playing in this yard. I have been reading animal encyclopedias since I was very young. It seemed that I could never learn enough about all the animals I could find. I still use these books in my studio today. They often help me...Romantic ...

Although each piece looks the same, they all have a different pattern. The surface decoration in this work is very spontaneous and definately follows the form. The form has a bulbous form that tapers into a thin neck which is then distorted. Glazed inside and out and taken to 1080°C. Posted by Matthew Sanna. A day in clay.

Mat's Ceramics: Strip melting vase
http://matsceramics.blogspot.com/2010/10/strip-melting-vase.html
Sunday, October 10, 2010. These are wheel thrown vases, marbled. They all have bulbous bodies that taper into thin necks. I achieved the spiraling lines on the surface by playing around with the marbling technique. The colours were achieved by the different firing temperatures. Posted by Matthew Sanna. Ariel Bowers | Finding the unforced rhythms
Finding the unforced rhythms. A hole in my bucket. April 16, 2016. Mom, there’s a hole in my sock , my daughter said as she got dressed one morning. There’s a hole in your sock, dear Liza? I replied with a grin as I went to her dresser to get a new pair. She looked at me blankly and asked why I’d called her Liza. Well, you know, from the song about the hole in the bucket. You know, ‘dear Liza, dear Liza’? I am reading Donald Miller’s book Through Painted Deserts. I do think that some people’s heart wound...

Ariel Bowman . I make sculptures of prehistoric animals that represent the wonder to be found in natural history. I am intrigued by animals that evolved with distinct features, such as unfamiliar tusks, strange elongated limbs, and unusual proportions. I use clay to bring these extinct creatures back to life, sculpting folds of flesh and filling their bellies with air. Proudly powered by Weebly.
