When they ask, I just keep saying to people, "Just keep living your life, every last bit of it, full-on, without fear or anxiety or remainder. A Robe and a Bowl. Far too many words exploring life as a Zen Buddhist priest. It is no small thing to be invited to stand at a friend's hospital bedside. It is no small honor to watch closely as those things most important to him make their way to the surface, leaving all else behind. It is no small trust to be given the final call whether to continue medical interventions or let the inevitable arrive on its own terms. I've said it before, and I'll say it again. I love this life, this very life.
