193 countries, one pair of shoes at a time. Skip to primary content. Hi there, I’m Anna, the 38th most popular name for babies born in 2011. Two words define me:. The reason I want to learn about shoes in each of these countries, and not the food, or the architecture is quite simple. Shoes say a lot about a country, such as:. The demographic make-up of the country,. Wealth and the distribution of wealth. The geography ofthe country,. The industries that the country specialises in,. The extent of obesity,.

April | 2014 | Musings from the oyster: Travels of a Pearl
https://travelsofapearl.wordpress.com/2014/04
Musings from the oyster: Travels of a Pearl. Monthly Archives: April 2014. April 30, 2014. Ah, Hoi An. As I write this I am killing some time before hopping on the overnight bus that will cruelly whisk me from this cute little town which I have found myself unable to leave until now. The bridge itself was also lit up and lantern-strewn (as are most of the trees here), and strolling over in the pleasantly balmy evening surrounded by colourful illumination, happy people taking snaps and riding bicycles, ba...

Musings from the oyster: Travels of a Pearl. April 2, 2014. So having finished our volunteering stints (mine proving to be somewhat heavy on the admin side of things, but I guess someone has to do it! Jess and I braved an overnight Indian train for the oldest and holiest city on earth, Varanasi. The river does offer a nice backdrop though, and we had both lunch and dinner yesterday at places offering river views (and, in the case of lunch, also enabling me to finally tick momos* off my ‘to try’ list).

Musings from the oyster: Travels of a Pearl. Monthly Archives: March 2014. March 22, 2014. Does make one appreciate the simple things. As I have become fond of saying over the past couple of days, there’s nothing like a cold shower to give one a sense of achievement first thing in the morning! Usually issued at a volume just shy of yelling) and what your name? A dog still bearing the marks of the Holi festival…. In the meantime, us volunteers are taking an overnight jaunt to Agra tomorrow Taj Mahal ahoy!

Musings from the oyster: Travels of a Pearl. Monthly Archives: February 2014. February 25, 2014. Ahh, the hours whiled away at Don Mucho’s….down the jungle path. And a late-night bus snack…. Sponch’s rival brand…but pretty much identical so I’m counting it as Sponch. Verdict: delicious. Have made it safely to Cancun and have carried out quality control on our hostel – so far, so good. Looking forward to a reunion with my poppit tonight! View all 2 comments. February 22, 2014. See you on the other side!
A brief breather | Musings from the oyster: Travels of a Pearl

Musings from the oyster: Travels of a Pearl. April 4, 2014. Our time in Varanasi rounded out nicely, with the night cruise enabling us to see the daily ‘ganga aarti’ ceremony at Dasaswamedh Ghat and float flower-ringed candles on the river to (hopefully) bring our families good luck (just like you requested, cuz! And the dawn cruise providing a relaxing start to the day and an insider look at morning activities by the river. Morning swim in the Ganges. Peacocks and Palaces →. Leave a Reply Cancel reply.

Musings from the oyster: Travels of a Pearl. Monthly Archives: May 2014. May 28, 2014. Enjoying some pre-curfew live music…. The frantic curfew stock-up! Of course, Bangkok minus the military coup would be preferable…. Early morning poolside lounging. Sunset from our hotel rooftop bar. First meal in Thailand – tom yum! I arrived in Chiang Mai yesterday after 19hours (! On a delayed overnight train, and so far it’s lovely! Iced coffee literally as big as my head! Again, there seem not to be too many ‘sigh...
I heart Vietnam | Musings from the oyster: Travels of a Pearl

Musings from the oyster: Travels of a Pearl. April 25, 2014. It’s now just over a week since I landed in Vietnam, and what a week it’s been! I loved Hanoi right from the get-go, when I bowled up to my hostel on the back of a random man’s motorcycle, having clung on through leafy, bike-filled streets to the old quarter. The hostel itself proved to be a massive beast, full to the brim with travellers from all over the place, and I was lucky enough to meet some great people to share the fun times with.

Musings from the oyster: Travels of a Pearl. May 21, 2014. Disclaimer: If there are typos in this post, it is because it is dinnertime here and there are people waiting on me who are edging ever-nearer to hanger. For the dorm’s sake, I must forego a proofread! Well, tomorrow is another day, another country! Hard to believe my time in Cambodia has come to an end in what feels like such a short space of time. A veritable mountain of crab-stuffed rolls! Bike rest stop by the sea. By Tuesday morning I was al...

Around the World in 80 Tastes | "Variety is the Spice of Life" …
Around the World in 80 Tastes. Variety is the Spice of Life …. Going for an English : A Study in Culinary Identity . October 25, 2013. We all know that what we put into our bodies is more than just skin deep. But, perhaps, the adage that now evokes fear as to whether we’ve had our 5 a day is more multi-faceted than we think. The food we eat and how we eat it is central to our sense of identity and belonging. Or I fancy Italian / Thai / Chinese. Just doesn’t enter our consciousness. Have become the subjec...

80段旅程環遊世界 - Around the World in 80 Trips
80段旅程環遊世界 - Around the World in 80 Trips. Thursday, July 16, 2015. Tuesday, June 2, 2015. La Paz 。 1549 年...
