Stylish living through time travel. Daily Outfit, April 7th, 2013. I made these bows in my hair. My cousin Megan made my earrings! I traded my girlfriend Shari of Charm School Vintage. A pair of deer antlers. For this neato 1930s dress. My shoes are Melissa, and I got them when I visited Brazil in 2009. I love this dress and this print so very much! I swear I read it at least once a year! But the country music is really bad, sorry! Here’s a smiling photo for all of you who always request one! Spring is h...

My Influences: Austin Bass Community
http://ryan-gould.blogspot.com/2009/10/austin-bass-community.html
Tuesday, October 6, 2009. Great Musicianers, Awesome Humans. Ten years ago, I moved to Austin with just a few things on my mind: Is it possible pay the bills as a professional musicianer? Things looked pretty optimistic. Welcomed me to town rather soon after I got here. It took about a year before I met with. Http:/ ryan-gould.blogspot.com/2008/11/nov-17-2008-kevin-smith.html. In each case, these guys were very kind to me. Each of them encouraged me to keep playing and listening. The one characteristic t...

http://ryan-gould.blogspot.com/2008/06/feb-18-2008-erik-hokkanen.html
Friday, June 27, 2008. Feb 18, 2008 - Erik Hokkanen. Violin, guitar, mandolin, etc. You should definitely be familiar with Erik Hokkanen if you're an Austin resident. There's really NO excuse. Please, feel free to feel a deep and overwhelming sense of shame if you haven't been out, at least once, to take in the incredible experience it is to be musically entertained by our subject. Every Tuesday night at Flips! There's tons of things I can say about Erik. I'll point out just a few. Erik is can live in th...

My Influences: March 1, 2009 - Pam
http://ryan-gould.blogspot.com/2009/03/march-1-2009-pam.html
Sunday, March 1, 2009. March 1, 2009 - Pam. Yoga instruction, guidance. During a discussion about staying in shape while touring, my old pal, Beau. Argued that one can't always use a gym or swim laps, and running, while a sure thing just about anywhere, is sometimes not the safest bet. However, there is always enough space in a hotel room for a yoga practice. I'm quite glad for that call and even happier to have found such a great guide through the world of yoga! I have; that's for sure! At the end of th...

My Influences: August 2009
http://ryan-gould.blogspot.com/2009_08_01_archive.html
Saturday, August 29, 2009. June 25, 2011 - P. Kellach Waddle. Bassist, composer, friend, resonator. I count myself among the luckiest folks. I get to do what I love for a living; bringing joy and light to anyone open to it through art. Through this career, as I've noted so many times in these scribbles, I've met so many great musicianers and beautiful humans. There is so much to hear and feel in his playing! Was it a common approach to music and life? Whatever it was, I found it to be deeply resonant....

My Influences: March 29, 2009 - Boom-ba
http://ryan-gould.blogspot.com/2009/03/march-29-2009-boom-ba.html
Sunday, March 29, 2009. March 29, 2009 - Boom-ba. Percussion Instrument of Pennsylvania Dutch Tradition. There are two questions typically associated with this beautiful invention. Dear friends, this is a musical instrument that is most often credited to the Pennsylvania Dutch. Really, it's any body's guess its true origin. If one does a brief search on the subject, a number of different histories can be found depending on the name used. This isn't really a question with an answer! I grew up in an area a...

Wednesday, June 10, 2009. April 20, 2009 - Uilleann Pipes. Na Piobairi Uilleann - Uilleann Pipes. Bellows blown bagpipes of Ireland. It seems like this topic has already been covered but a quick perusal of the blog says otherwise? So, where do we start? The Scottish Great Highland Pipes (The Great Pipes). Check out Sean Folsom's great page on the different bagpipes of the world:. Http:/ www.hotpipes.com/main.html. Or the Wikipedia installment:. Http:/ en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Types of bagpipes. My Influences: Dec. 15, 2008 - Roy Rogers
http://ryan-gould.blogspot.com/2008/12/dec-15-2008-roy-rogers.html
Monday, December 15, 2008. Dec 15, 2008 - Roy Rogers. Piper, carpenter, mentor . I spent the years after my enlistment with the USMC and before I moved to Austin, Texas studying a terribly strange instrument: the uilleann pipes. I can't say what exactly moved me to commit so much of those years to such an odd calling. It did happen, though. And spent a week trying to figure out how make noise with it. (Sorry, Dad and Teresa! Lessons with Roy continued as routinely as either of schedules and my progress p...

http://ryan-gould.blogspot.com/2011_06_01_archive.html
Saturday, June 11, 2011. June 11, 2011 - Hal Smith. Drums, history, and pure awesome. I have a friend,. His name is Hal. He's one serious hell of a pal. As a musicianer, I feel it's important to quickly find some connection, a common language, that can be used to deliver music and its spirit to others. Ensemble! Sometimes it takes a little while to get to know another musicianer; shyness, external situations, etc. might slow the process. Sometimes it never happens. Hal is a true ensemble player! Your ins...

My Influences: Nov. 17, 2008 - Kevin Smith
http://ryan-gould.blogspot.com/2008/11/nov-17-2008-kevin-smith.html
Monday, November 17, 2008. Nov 17, 2008 - Kevin Smith. My cousin turned me on to the. He paid me a visit after he stumbled across their first CD in a bin at Tower Records. We threw that CD into the stereo and enjoyed some fine music. At some point, we had both started thinking about the great bass sound and started discussing the nature of his percussive effect. How is this guy making all this racket? This guy was (and still is). For that alone, I am monumentally grateful and indebted to this great man.
