TheDorothyFamily: January 2015
http://dorothyfamily.blogspot.com/2015_01_01_archive.html
Friday, January 23, 2015. We've been home 3 weeks and 2 days. Improvement has been measured by the week rather than each day. I have to say, considering where he was 3 weeks ago, he is doing great! Week one he still needed help bathing and dressing, still unable to sit and had to change positions frequently and still rode in the back seat laying down. Week 2 bathing and dressing on his own and sitting a little in the recliner, still in the back seat. I am glad we were home sooner than last year. I pick h...

TheDorothyFamily: November 2014
http://dorothyfamily.blogspot.com/2014_11_01_archive.html
Thursday, November 20, 2014. So after 2 weeks we finally got the Mercy records last Thursday (the 13th.) I immediately trekked up to FedEx and made a copy for us and sent both the Mercy and H.O.G. records to Mayo. The records were delivered Friday morning, however, we have yet to hear from them. Doug is going to call again tomorrow. Sometimes you just wonder how much disappointment.well, you know. We are still in the first paragraph last line, remember the vicious cycle? Yep, cycling again.). Thank you a...

TheDorothyFamily: Discharge??
http://dorothyfamily.blogspot.com/2014/12/discharge.html
Wednesday, December 31, 2014. Doug has reached all of the qualifications for discharge. *TMI Alert* (Although if you've ever had surgery, it's pretty much standard.) Pass gas/Stool, walk 4-6 times per day, pee and switch to oral meds. Soooo, there is a possibility he may be discharged tomorrow. He still has the iv in (just in case) and a drain tube coming out of his stomach that is supposed to be pulled tomorrow. Again, God specializes in timing so we are placing it in HIS more than capable hands. Bu...

TheDorothyFamily: October 2014
http://dorothyfamily.blogspot.com/2014_10_01_archive.html
Thursday, October 30, 2014. Doug heard from Mayo on Tuesday. They requested his records of course so I got that process started. H.O.G. should have them ready by Friday (2 copies) and Mercy will mail them to us. When I got home Doug was in bed (where he's been most of the afternoon / evening.) He said they had called about getting in to see Dr Rogers (who was going to be the 2nd opinion.) The earliest he can get would have been November 5th. We just opted out of that one. Jan, Doug and Eric. We have yet ...

TheDorothyFamily: February 2015
http://dorothyfamily.blogspot.com/2015_02_01_archive.html
Saturday, February 14, 2015. There is a reason they say 6 weeks! We've been home 6 weeks and 2 days. I went back to work mornings on week 4 as Doug was driving himself to therapy. I was thankful for the opportunity to be able to switch shifts with the pm girls for a time but it sure is nice to be home evenings again with my guys. He really enjoyed being out (it was 65 degrees and sunny) but boy was he pooped Sunday evening. I have to continually remind him to slow down as he's just not there yet. We are ...

TheDorothyFamily: HAS IT REALLY BEEN 5 MONTHS?????
http://dorothyfamily.blogspot.com/2015/07/has-it-really-been-5-months.html
Wednesday, July 15, 2015. HAS IT REALLY BEEN 5 MONTHS? Well of course a LOT has happened. Since February, Doug continued to hang in there and his stamina gradually increased. He definately needs his sleep still and unless God heals him fully his body will never be the same. But you know what? With God's help, WE CAN HANDLE IT! He said last night, "imagine having a big adhesive bandaid on all of the time." Can't do it can you? Me either. I am so proud of him. We had a really nice graduation reception for ...

TheDorothyFamily: Saturday night / Sunday AM
http://dorothyfamily.blogspot.com/2014/12/saturday-night-sunday-am.html
Sunday, December 28, 2014. Saturday night / Sunday AM. Well, when he is puking or needs to use the restroom quickly or just anything you don't want to have to tell them and then wait, sometimes as much as 15 minutes or more. Which is why I feel comfortable leaving him at night. So far they are all really sweet too. :) It is really nice to be able to get a good nights sleep and a shower. He had walked once but without pain meds so it was a short one. I better get back and open his peaches for him. :).

TheDorothyFamily: Sunday PM - Monday
http://dorothyfamily.blogspot.com/2014/12/sunday-pm-monday.html
Tuesday, December 30, 2014. Sunday PM - Monday. Sunday evening was fairly uneventful. We again had Andrea, it's so nice when we get the same nurse for a few days in a row. So far we've been very fortunate with great nurses. This morning I got to the hospital and Doug was sawing logs! We visited a little more and Kate and Andy left. It was sooooo nice to see them, even if Doug wasn't feeling the best. This afternoon we both took a nap. Two more of Dr Devine's "Fellows" came in late in the day&...Around 5 ...
