Mixed Media Artist changing the world one stitch at a time. Have fun! Impossibly turquoise lakes, brown astrakhan hills, yellow, yellow, trees. I have been away from my desk and computer for 4 weeks enjoying a road trip of the South Island of New Zealand. Snow, glorious snow! Only a North Islander would get excited, waking up to snow on the lawn, and then play in it before breakfast. How can I translate the texture to fabric, the crystals, the emotion of joy and laughter from playing in soft snow.

Mixed Media Artist changing the world one stitch at a time. Have fun! 4 Seasons in 1 Day. Using 2m fabric left over from Carl's quilt, I created this small 50 cm work, reflecting my passion for nature. The smaller triangles were fiddly, compared to the larger quilt, and when it was being made, it kept saying wind and sun, so I reverse bobbin embroidered Tawhirimatea (the wind) and Te Ra (sun) with crochet cotton. After quilting, it was easier to remove than fabric pencil, so I will use it again.

Mixed Media Artist changing the world one stitch at a time. Have fun! I have read about using double threads, not a double needle, and so going to give it a try. Jan gave me some flower fabric with an iris outline, so I am going to machine embroider these with 2 threads in a single needle – Jean 100/16. Other thread combinations used:. Burgundy and red on red flowers. Orange and red on red flowers. Lavender and dark blue on blue flowers. Yellow and white on yellow flowers. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom).

Mixed Media Artist changing the world one stitch at a time. Have fun! After soaking the “fabric” in water, I didn’t rinse it as fully, as I wanted the residual glue to hold it together when it was cut into circles. I ironed double sided Vilene to the back, and kept the paper attached. I keep looking at the fabric, the Angelina catch the light. The small random triangles of plastic film peek through the other threads, also catching the light, so decided to call it “let there be light”. Decided to embroide...

Mixed Media Artist changing the world one stitch at a time. Have fun! Triangles, Triangles, Triangles! Now, with the sewimg machine back I was able to start on the triangles I had cut last week. I am ptting them into hexagons, and I am facinated wtih the array of design possiblities that this shape offers. I have slapped 100 hexagons onto the design wall, and are having a play with them. The photos are of different combinations. Labels: 60 degree triangles. Labels: Pureroa Forest Park. Doesn't sewing 3 i...
