http://pleasingmypalate.blogspot.com/2011_01_01_archive.html
A finicky guy's exploits in finding gustatory (and other) satisfaction in his kitchen, his neighborhood, and beyond. Monday, January 31, 2011. Sorry to disappoint you readers expecting a more lurid topic, but Friday Night Quickie refers to the dish of eggplant with gnocchi that I whipped up last week between work and running off to the Met to see the worlds sexiest baritone — Im excluding myself out of modesty — in Simon Boccanegra. The swoon-worthy Dmitri Hvorostovsky. Friday, January 28, 2011. Even if ...

A finicky guy's exploits in finding gustatory (and other) satisfaction in his kitchen, his neighborhood, and beyond. Thursday, April 14, 2011. In which Michael forges a relationship with Mariah Carey's husband. First I run into George the sexy pleather-clad dancer at the gym. (Well, he was towel-clad when we "met.") Then, yesterday, a world-famous fashion designer/fragrance purveyor who shall remain nameless was — Bang! Why have all these celebrities been throwing themselves in my path lately? Hopefuls w...

Saturday, September 27, 2014. My Bachtrack review of La Boheme at the Met, second night of the season. I am a big, weepy mess nearly every time I see it. From "Si, mi chiamano Mimì" to Rodolfo's anguished cries of "Mimì! I go through tissue after tissue. Since I was the age of these Bohemians, they have been my friends. The more I see and hear. The more amazed I am at the music of Puccini. ( see the rest. Act II bow, from a previous season. Photo: The Metropolitan Opera. Tuesday, September 2, 2014. Trium...

Taminophile: Peace can be ours when love we find
http://www.taminophile.com/2015/07/peace-can-be-ours-when-love-we-find.html
Tuesday, July 21, 2015. Peace can be ours when love we find. On Monday afternoon I saw the Glimmerglass Festival's new production of. Sean Panikkar and Jacqueline Echols. Photo: Karli Cadel, Glimmerglass Festival. These are minor qualms, I admit, and my only real complaints about the show. The singing was stellar. Sean Panikkar is a fine Tamino—certainly an experienced one, as at his tender young age this is his eighth. Production—and gave Tamino a good combination of dignity and passion. His s...Pamina ...

Taminophile: This is the very stuff of opera
http://www.taminophile.com/2015/07/this-is-very-stuff-of-opera.html
Sunday, July 19, 2015. This is the very stuff of opera. So says Tazewell Thompson in his director's essay on the Glimmerglass Festival production of Vivaldi's. The star of the show was the Caesar of countertenor John Holiday. His voice is high but never shrill, and his pyrotechnics are beyond compare. He sang with great passion and tenderness, and commanded the stage easily with his enormous presence. He impressed especially with arias like the angry and florid. Wednesday, August 26, 2015. Paisiello's Barbiere di Siviglia. On Saturday afternoon, in the middle of my week-long Nozze. Binge, I was happy to see Giovanni Paisiello's 1782 setting of Il Barbiere di Siviglia. This was, of course, part of dell'Arte Opera Ensemble's Beaumarchais Trilogy. (Recall that Pierre Beaumarchais [1732-1799] wrote the plays on which Le Nozze di Figaro. And Il Barbiere di Siviglia. Paisiello's Il Barbiere di Siviglia.
