Friday, August 6, 2010. Jack Knife Butterfly / Found Object Assemblage by ClarissaCallesen. Jack Knife Butterfly / Found Object Assemblage by ClarissaCallesen. Original Found Object Assemblage. 65” x 8” x 1.5'. I found this beautiful old jack knife that had obviously been well loved at a garage sale and it became the center piece the body for this butterfly creature. The entire piece is mounted on a rusty tin and a beautiful piece of old tongue and grove from a deconstructed box. August 6, 2010 at 7:09 PM.

http://clarissacallesen.blogspot.com/2010/09/bunny-ears-for-everyone.html
Sunday, September 12, 2010. BuNNy EaRs FoR EvErYoNE. Not sure what came over me, perhaps it was the ADO wonderland event or watching the fabulous stop motion Czech film “Alice” That featured Alice turning into a doll, a fabulously creepy taxidermy rabbit, a sock puppet caterpillar and fabulous creatures made out of bones and found objects. . But almost everything I created in the summer had rabbit ears! 160; Very weird. On with the show…. Then there is this little bunny man…. So darn cute. Riki. All t...

Clarissa Callesen Creator of Strange and Wonderful Things: Burning Man
http://clarissacallesen.blogspot.com/2013/09/burning-man.html
Monday, September 9, 2013. Why do I go to Burning Man? Why do I return to that inhospitable, crowded (61,000 people this year), loud, dirty place? 160; I have vacationed in Hawaii in a beach front condo for less than it costs to do Burning Man. SO WHY ON EARTH WOULD I RETURN YEAR AFTER YEAR? I want to continue to talk about and explore my relationship to this simultaneously grotesque and utterly beautiful place. Again why would I expend so much energy to attend such a flawed and challenging event? It was...

Clarissa Callesen Creator of Strange and Wonderful Things: SpRiNg ArTwOrK
http://clarissacallesen.blogspot.com/2011/04/spring-artwork.html
Monday, April 25, 2011. It has been a productive and good Spring so far. Well using the word “spring” metaphorically since its just been the last couple of weeks that it has actually felt like spring outside. Keeping up with all aspects of being an artist and still having a life continues to be challenging and in that process things like my blog get neglected. I do love being self employed though! And a fair amount of it has found new homes. Oh Artfest. Ok still having a strong fascination with Bunny peo...

Clarissa Callesen Creator of Strange and Wonderful Things: The Beautiful Ugly
http://clarissacallesen.blogspot.com/2014/05/the-beautiful-ugly.html
Friday, May 9, 2014. I LOVE the look of peeling paint and worn out objects. One of my artistic objectives is to find the beauty amid the ugly. Real life is not airbrushed models and perfectly photographed art studios with styled “chaos”. Life is zits on your 40 something face and liquid nails oozing all over your filthy work table. Tulip petals fallen in the mud. Skagit Valley WA. India is the land of BEAUTIFUL UGLY. Do you still see the beauty of the tulip petal when it’s fallen into the mud? Do you ...

Clarissa Callesen Creator of Strange and Wonderful Things: A Special Commission
http://clarissacallesen.blogspot.com/2014/04/a-special-commission.html
Sunday, April 27, 2014. Sometimes commission work is the bane of the working artist’s existence, But this time I got to make a dream mixed media assemblage as a commission. 160; I remember the days of being a functional potter and doing commission or custom pieces. Every pot in the kiln would look beautiful except. For the one commission piece which enviably would warp or run or just look like shit! And then contacted me after we all returned to the “normal” world post Burning Man. The email received fr...
