Our misadventures in Argentina and Chile. January 5, 2011. I thought that I was a fair outdoorsmen and pretty adventurous, but our time in Patagonia made us seriously reconsider our self-image. We're sliding into Christmas here and it's as hot as hades, my least favorite way to celebrate what for me is a cold-weather holiday. Although it is unlikely to make front page news, Congress is once again debating whether to continue paying Foreign Service Officers Overseas Comparability Pay (OCP). This time around, they're slipping it into the appropriations bill - if the bill mentions OCP, some/all of it will get funded; if not, it will amount to a 16% pay cut for me and many of my colleagues.
