Thursday, August 21, 2014. I wonder what my kids think of me. Maybe they haven’t really – I don’t remember thinking about my Dad. He just was. A realization that feels like a soft hollowing out of my chest:. I’m starting to forget (about) him. My Dad. It is so much worse than remembering him in his absence. I’m not forgetting what I need and I’m not forgetting what I want and everything I’m forgetting, I’m becoming. Posted by Allen C. Topolski. Monday, January 6, 2014. Except for a desk-like area. Artevice: November 2009

http://artevice.blogspot.com/2009_11_01_archive.html

Saturday, November 7, 2009. I drove my car – fast – through a pile of leaves this morning – I enjoyed watching them ride in the air current that curled around the rear of the car and then disappear. Before - when I used to read things other people wrote that had nothing to do with what might become a resource for my students or a direction for my art - I used to read William Faulkner. He can see no further in the past than the block he drags behind him. Posted by Allen C. Topolski.

Artevice: November 2010

Friday, November 12, 2010. I am momentarily and strangely uncomfortable if I take a shower without first telling some one. It is usually a passing thought in a short-lived instant – just as I turn on the water I think, “I should have told some one.”. It typically passes along with the many other transitory mental moments that pop and disappear in the gray dribble between sub consciousness and functional thought. Yesterday it stayed with me though – and it begged contemplation. I moved on and opened the b...

Artevice: May 2011

Saturday, May 7, 2011. The movement from the wheelchair to the toilet depleted his strength entirely. He struggled to breathe normally and leaned forward, forearms on his knees, until he gained composure. “I don’t know if I can pull myself out of it this time.” he said. I can’t remember what I said. I hope it doesn’t matter. His death nearly lacked the character of an 'event.' It was just one moment moving to the next - and moving so smoothly that it really could have been any other moment at all&#46...

Artevice: January 2011

http://artevice.blogspot.com/2011_01_01_archive.html

Saturday, January 8, 2011. Her hand raised and touched her face. Her fingertips contacted her cheek and paused there - her flesh gave to the slight pressure. It was not a gesture that supported an expression and it had no decipherable intent. Although it looked like a touch to affirm her own presence – her own solidity - her eyes showed no manner of recognition or relief – no affirmation, no contradiction. Posted by Allen C. Topolski. If you got a chance to see the Oscars last night, you got the opportunity to witness some great performances of music from the category of Best Song in a Motion Picture. The nominees began with Pharrell Williams’s singing of “Happy,” from. An infectious song for sure. He got things rolling. Next was a delicate version of “The Moon Song,” from. Than “Happy” does in. About Me and 4tUP. 124; Comments RSS. About Me and 4tUP. Power, Politics, and Negotiating Allegiances. Posted on April 15, 2012. In my last post on. I ended with a series of questions: Who will best be able to negotiate the liminal, the in-between? And where will allegiances lie as things become better defined? Again, I think with both race and gender, it will make for interesting viewing to see how the characters negotiate the shifting ideological allegiances that the 1960s created. 124; Leave a comment.

I have been a reader of PostSecret for about seven years now, I think, if not a bit longer. PostSecret. The directions that Warren gives for the project are rather simple. He hands out cards that read:. Warren began the event by talking about how he imagines secrets as a box full of postcards that we carry around. The question he has is what to do with that box? Warren was a good spe...

The amazing banality of the lyrics:. It’s empty in the valley of your heart. The sun, it rises slowly as you walk. Away from all the fears. And all the faults you’ve left behind. The harvest left no food for you to eat. You cannibal, you meat-eater, you see. But I have seen the same. But I will hold on hope.

I’m not often watching television these days at about 12:20 am, which might explain how I missed the performance of Future Islands on David Letterman’s. In early March. But in looking at some other things today, I came across it. It is AMAZING. Plus he kind of looks like a young Marlon Brando, especially with that black t-shirt. (Marlon didn’t sing like that, though, as you know if you’ve ever seen his performance. The dis...
