Norris and the Flamingo: Beauty at Manchester Museum
http://norrisandtheflamingo.blogspot.com/2015/06/beauty-at-manchester-museum.html
Monday, 22 June 2015. Beauty at Manchester Museum. A few museum visits lately have allowed me to discover how utterly creative and beautiful the natural history galleries have become. Perhaps the most easily traditional of all museum collections, stuffed animals in rows in glass cabinets can feel intimidatingly austere. And I've been surprised and delighted by some of the interpretation that happens around these areas today. Both creative and educational . Posted by Megan Dowsett. NORRIS AND THE FLAMINGO.

Norris and the Flamingo: Yes Artists
http://norrisandtheflamingo.blogspot.com/2015/06/yes-artists.html
Monday, 15 June 2015. These thoughts began on the back of paper scraps found in my bag, one sunny afternoon while my daughter slept . Illustrated with a few of my own more participative projects. I quite often find myself drawn into conversations with artist friends, about why we do what we do, about what we're trying to achieve and how best to achieve it. About the values behind our work. But I've become increasingly aware and fascinated by the different kinds of artist educators. Sometimes I'm a teache...

Norris and the Flamingo: July 2015
http://norrisandtheflamingo.blogspot.com/2015_07_01_archive.html
Thursday, 30 July 2015. And to the left, my favourite image, And it Poured. I loved Carrie May. S depiction of London as a jungle, with familiar city objects tucked between leaf fronds as if they were wild, rarely spotted animals. As an absolute sucker for beauty, the shortlist for this category was long, and in the end I just had to choose two pieces. S mix of colour and monochrome, and utterly familiar and loved place, distortion of size and hint of narrative drew me in. Illustration is first and forem...

Norris and the Flamingo: October 2014
http://norrisandtheflamingo.blogspot.com/2014_10_01_archive.html
Friday, 31 October 2014. In Celebration of the Gothic. A complete treat of a day out, Liam, Feets and I went to see Terror and Wonder: The Gothic Imagination. At the British Library. I wasn't sure what to expect - I don't think of myself as a big fan of the macabre, but we anticipated a good cross over of our interests. A few artists I noted . Illustrated some poems by Sylvia Plath. This is Death Among the Thistles. That's all for now, but there was of course a glorious reunion with Harry Clarke. With an...

Norris and the Flamingo: Plaster Treasures
http://norrisandtheflamingo.blogspot.com/2015/06/plaster-treasures.html
Thursday, 25 June 2015. Before I know it, my gorgeous Fairy God-daughter will have started school. So we stole some time and spent a morning pressing trasures into clay and filling them with plaster. And we experimented with colouring the plaster with ink. Which would have worked much better if the clay hadn't been terracotta! Posted by Megan Dowsett. NORRIS AND THE FLAMINGO. Norris and the Flamingo: April 2015
http://norrisandtheflamingo.blogspot.com/2015_04_01_archive.html
Monday, 27 April 2015. I picked The Thingamabob. Up in a charity shop by fleeting chance (all decisions are quickly taken with a child in tow! And it's beautiful. I thought it would be a book that Liam and I enjoyed and Feets endured, but no, she loves it too. A beautiful book for children. And so it led me to, firstly start including twiddles and twirls in my doodles, and secondly, finally (well, just now), look up Il Sung Na. Now I'd like to collect all his books. Posted by Megan Dowsett. These pages s...

Monday, 29 June 2015. My Fairy God-daughter has too many toys . And so her creative mother asked us all to make a page for a book for her birthday, that she would bind into something beautiful that allowed Penny to visit us all whenever she fancied. Well, I broke the A5 rule, but clearly I just needed this little prompt to make something for my special lady. Posted by Megan Dowsett. NORRIS AND THE FLAMINGO. View my complete profile. Norris and the Flamingo: August 2014
http://norrisandtheflamingo.blogspot.com/2014_08_01_archive.html
Wednesday, 27 August 2014. Another Bit of Silliness. I shared my ' frame project. A month or two ago, in which I filled a section of an old screen I have with bottle tops. Well, my mind kept mulling over what to do next, and has a whole host of ideas stored away! It's a nice, easy thing to do with a child around, because I can pick it up and put it down. Posted by Megan Dowsett. Wednesday, 20 August 2014. I stumbled across the Urban Art Fair. Is a fantastic, inspiring, mesmerising illustrator, who took p...

Norris and the Flamingo: March 2015
http://norrisandtheflamingo.blogspot.com/2015_03_01_archive.html
Monday, 2 March 2015. A Book for Feets. A delightful side effect of having a baby is that for the first time, Liam and I have collaborated on creative projects. We made a mobile. For her before she was born and now we've made Feets a book about her family in Canada so that perhaps, perhaps, she might recognise them when she meets them! This is a page to whet your appetite; the others (and the finished result) will follow in due course . Posted by Megan Dowsett. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). A Book for Feets.
