Monday, August 01, 2005. Man steals $29,000 piece of jewelry. Christiansburg police are on the look out for a man who robbed a local jewelry store. He stole one item worth $29,000. Police aren't saying exactly what it was. The man came into the Ginger's Jewelry in Christiansburg around 3:00, asking about the piece of jewelry. When the jeweler unlocked it, the man grabbed it and ran out the door, towards the Wal-Mart. If you have any information, you're asked to call christiansburg police at 540-382-3131.

In a show of cross-South Florida unity, the Community Foundation for Palm Beach and Martin Counties said it has received a three-year, $2.5 million grant from the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation. The money, the more northern foundation said, will double Knight's donor-advised fund to about $5 million. Grants generally average in size from less than $3,000 to a maximum of $30,000; however, the foundation said it prefers smaller requests.
