Welcome to Shirley MacKenzie's Art Space. My aim has always been to connect with my viewer, seeking out an idea or feeling to share. I begin with photography, taking pictures of places and people. I then begin a series of sketches in graphite and prismacolour. I rearrange the images from photo to sketch looking for that perfect composition. Most of the works are for sale, so please feel free to contact me. I have also included multi-media pieces, museum exhibit design and artwork as well as illustration.

Born Shirley Marie Brown in 1959, Halifax Nova Scotia, Shirley s birth mother was of English origin and her father Syrian. Nearing the age of two Shirley was adopted into a large French Canadian family. In 1965 the family moved to Ottawa and then again in 1973 to Montreal. Here Shirley excelled in a strong arts curriculum High School and at Dawson College under the masterful talents of established Canadian artists Gerald Roach, Andy Dukowicz, Raymond Brown, and Freida Baine.

In 1989, The Silversides Tool Museum opened its doors for the first time on the Perth Wildlife Reserve, about 2kms outside Perth. I was hired in 1985 -1991 to research, design and produce all the art work for the museum. There were over 2000 turn of the century trade tools in the collection that were being stored in a beautiful two storey log building; this building would become the Silversides Museum.
