Students are introduced to wood block prints by Japanese artists Katsushika Hokusai and Utagawa Hiroshige. Hokusai was best known for. The Great Wave off Kanagawa. These classroom prints were made by impressing lines into styrofoam plates with a dull pencil and inked with a brayer. Students get to choose their own subject matter and are encouraged to experiment with line variation and mixing ink colors!

In the winter, most of them were created with the intention of being given as a gift so many of the kids made them personalized.
